Ree Drummond uses an easy shortcut for the sinful brownies

Drummond demonstrated how to make the brownie s’mores bars recipe on an episode of The Pioneer Woman. She was making the decadent treat for her daughter Paige to take with her to college.

“I am making Paige’s extra special s’mores brownies,” she explained. “This is the kind of thing that you definitely want to take back to your college roommates. They will love you, they will beg you to live with them another year. It’s gonna be so good.”

Drummond had an easy hack for making the brownies — she used a boxed brownie mix.

“So the great thing about this recipe is it actually has a brownie mix as the base,” The Pioneer Woman star explained. After mixing together milk and eggs, she sprinkled in the brownie mix, added melted butter, and stirred the batter to combine everything.

Then Drummond poured 2/3 of the batter into a parchment-lined 9×13-inch pan. “I draped a piece of parchment so it’ll hang over each side and that’s going to make it easier for the brownies to come out of the pan after they bake,” she explained.

“And this is where things get fun,” Drummond said after spreading the batter out in the pan. She added dollops of marshmallow cream on top and swirled it into the batter. Then she added the remaining brownie batter. “You can see where you can get little hints of the marshmallow cream peeking up,” she pointed out.

The Food Network host wasn’t done just yet, however. Drummond added pieces of chocolate candy bar on top of the batter as well as broken pieces of graham crackers. “I mean, this is all about the s’mores, ladies and gents,” she joked.

Drummond baked the brownies in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 30 minutes. She removed them from the oven and had a few more additions. She sprinkled a bag of mini marshmallows over the surface and placed the pan in the oven for 10 more minutes.

Then she sprinkled more chocolate bar pieces and graham crackers over the top and added a drizzle of caramel sauce and a pinch of salt over the top. Drummond stopped there, but noted that sprinkles and candy coated chocolate pieces can also be sprinkled on the brownies. “Paige doesn’t like a lot of adornments so she wanted me to stop here,” she shared.

Drummond also has a recipe for “crazy brownies” that are another over-the-top sweet dessert option. She mixes chocolate cake mix with evaporated milk and melted butter and stirs it together. Then she spreads half of the batter into the bottom of a greased square cake pan.

Drummond adds a plethora of goodies to the brownies, including peanut butter cups chocolate caramels, Rolos candies, M&M’s, and chopped pecans. She places the top brownie layer over the nuts and candies and bakes the dessert in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 22 to 25 minutes.

After the brownies bake, Drummond allows them to cool completely then covers them with foil and places the pan in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.

She adds powdered sugar over the top before cutting the brownies.
