Ree Drummond had help from her family when the pandemic hit
When the coronavirus pandemic hit, Ree’s family came to the rescue. She received production help from Paige, Alex, Mauricio (her son-in-law), and Stuart (her nephew). Alex says she was a bit confused when The Pioneer Woman first asked her to help produce the show.
“My mom texted us and was like, ‘Can you guys help me film the show?’” says Alex during her #AskAlex Instagram video. “And we were like, ‘What do you mean?’ We were very confused.”
After Ree explained her production crew wouldn’t be able to fly out to Oklahoma because of the pandemic, Alex and the rest of the family was more than happy to help. The Drummond team pitched in by filming episodes on their iPhones. Paige says they thought filming The Pioneer Woman was going to be short-term, but they have filmed more than 50 episodes so far.
‘The Pioneer Woman’ filming schedule
Alex says they film two episodes per day. Paige revealed they change their clothes, so it looks like they’re filming on different days. Alex adds they used to only do one episode per day, but they’ve gotten so efficient that they’ve been able to add an additional episode.
Alex gives an update on when she’s having a baby
One viewer asked Alex when she and Mauricio plan to have a baby. Alex replies, “no time soon.” She explained they’re “still kids,” and would like to take their time and enjoy life first.
Their favorite meals to cook
Alex, Paige, Stuart, and Mauricio shared their favorite meals to make. Stuart says he’s a big fan of steak. He realized it’s cheaper to cook his own steak than it is to eat out. Paige says she likes to make a lot of pasta and chickpea curry. She recently made penne alla vodka. Alex says she likes to make eggs. Her husband, Mauricio, likes cooking Mexican food, mostly tacos.
What they do with all the leftover food after filming
Alex and Paige say they usually take the food home. When the regular crew is there, they take the food home. Sometimes the leftovers are donated. However, Alex and Paige say they eat a lot of the food while they are filming. “We usually come pretty hungry,” says Alex.
Their favorite thing about filming ‘The Pioneer Woman’
Paige says they all work well together, so that makes filming a breeze. “It makes for natural filming and funny scenes,” she says. Mauricio says the food is the best thing about filming the show. He added that being together is another perk. “I feel that we’ve all gotten to be such good friends,” says Alex.
