‘The Pioneer Woman’: Ree Drummond Learned This Life Lesson After Hiking With Ladd
Ree Drummond recently went on a trip with her husband, Ladd Drummond. During their vacation, they took a hike together. The Pioneer Woman says she learned important life lessons from Ladd while they hiked. Here’s what she shared about their time together.
Ree and Ladd Drummond went on vacation
Ree shared details about her Colorado vacation. She and Ladd were supposed to go away together a few months ago, but their plans had to be put on hold after Ladd’s accident. He broke his neck when his vehicle collided with his nephew’s truck while they were working on the Drummond ranch. It was a close call, but Ladd is on his way to a full recovery.
The Food Network star was happy to finally have some time with Ladd. She posted a message on Instagram during their trip.
“Last time Ladd and I tried to go to Colorado together, there was this really bad accident involving a fire truck and we didn’t make it,” wrote Ree. “So, my answer to the question ‘How happy are you to be in Colorado with your husband right now?’ would most definitely be this: Happy. So very, very, extremely, through-the-roof, over the moon happy. (Until he makes me hike up the Berry Picker trail with him later this week, then I will leave his butt on the mountain and drive back to Oklahoma by myself.)”
The lesson Ree Drummond learned while hiking with Ladd
Ree says on her website that one big lesson she learned after hiking with Ladd is that it’s important to keep moving forward even when life gets hard. She says she was reminded of this after Ladd kept encouraging her to keep going when she wanted to quit a difficult hike.
“Life isn’t always easy,” says Ree on The Pioneer Woman website. “Sometimes it’s actually very hard. You have to stop and catch your breath… You will want to give up, not once but several times. You’ll wonder what the point is. You’ll want to take the easy road and go to the spa! But if you persevere… if you listen to the encouragement of others. Heck, if you allow yourself to lean on others, you will get there.”
Ree Drummond jokes that she and Ladd are competitive
Ree took to Instagram to share highlights from her vacation with her husband. She says she and Ladd tend to compete with each other. She jokes that they like to compete over minor things, like who will get to the top of the stairs first.
“Ladd and I are weirdly competitive,” says Ree on Instagram. “Not with anything that matters, but definitely with dumb things like racing each other up a random flight of stairs while on vacation.”
Ree says most of the time, she doesn’t have a shot at beating Ladd. “Usually, I have no hope of beating him unless I decide to start the race without informing him that there is a race. Today he was nice enough to open the door for me and I used it as my chance to get a head start. Check out how quickly he reacted, it’s almost like a reflex. Anyway, none of this was a good idea at 8,155 feet. I’m pretty sure I won, not that it matters since I am now dead. Bye.”
