‘The Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond’s Secret to a Lasting Marriage
The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond has been married to Ladd Drummond since 1996. Here’s what the Food Network cook said about the secret to their long marriage.
Ree and Ladd still go on date nights
Just because Ree and Ladd have been married for more than two decades doesn’t mean they don’t spend quality time together. They make sure to go on date nights. In the winter issue of The Pioneer Woman Magazine, a reader asked The Accidental Country Girl what she and Ladd do on their date nights. She said that she and Ladd usually go out to see a movie.
“We love to watch movies together. But because the closest theater is about 50 minutes from our house, we usually only go out to see epic ones, like ‘Aquaman’ or something from Marvel. Ladd and I will split a popcorn and a regular Coke—it’s the one time I drink it! (Yes, he loves Dr Pepper, but only in a can!)”
They have a cute way to get over disagreements
Ree and Ladd have an adorable way of resolving conflict. If they ever have a disagreement, this is what helps get things back on track. The Pioneer Woman told People she and Ladd make sure their feet touch when they’re lying in bed. It’s a way for them to reconnect, let each other know things are OK, and that they still support each other:
“We don’t go to sleep in each other’s arms—we like our space—but our feet always touch,” says Ree. “I know that if our feet touch before we go to sleep at night, we’re not going to bed upset or angry. If we’ve had a little disagreement, as long as our feet touch, it’s all good.”
Ladd Drummond likes to send Ree sweet ‘love letters’
In an Instagram post, Ree shared a video Ladd sent her while riding his horse on their ranch. She told her fans he sometimes sends videos from his workday when the weather is nice. The Food Network star said she thinks of these videos as Ladd’s love letters to her. Here’s what Ree wrote about Ladd’s videos:
When a morning of work is especially pretty, Ladd sends me videos from his horse. I love the sights, but I also love the sounds: cows mooing, horseshoes clicking on the creek bed, leather stirrups squeaking, and Ladd’s voice narrating at the end. It’s the best kind of love letter.
Ree and Ladd’s secret to a long marriage
Ree and Ladd try to keep life simple, and that includes their relationship. One thing they do to stay in touch with each other is to unwind on the couch each evening. They like to spend some quiet time together and reconnect.
“Ladd and I always wind up together on the couch in the evenings, no matter how busy we’ve been throughout the day,” says Ree on The Pioneer Woman website. “We both have a soft spot for old Westerns, any of The Godfather movies and ’80s flicks. We’re on the same page with snacks, too. Queso for us and popcorn for the kids!”
