‘The Pioneer Woman’: Ree Drummond Says This Animal is ‘Demonic’
The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond loves animals, but there’s one in particular she’s not all that fond of. The Food Network star is surround by animals on a daily basis, however, when it comes to this animal, she’s definitely not a fan. Here’s what Drummond shared about the “demonic” animal she doesn’t like.
Ree Drummond’s pets
Basset hounds are Drummond’s favorite animals. They have the cutest faces and adorable floppy ears, but this isn’t the only reason she chooses to have this furry friend by her side. In The Pioneer Woman magazine, Drummond says she loves this dog breed because they remind her of her childhood. Here’s what she told a reader in her Q and A:
My first dog, when I was 3 years old, was a basset hound. And a basset hound was the first dog Ladd and I got as a married couple. I’ve loved Basset hounds all my life! Their excess skin, floppy ears, droopy eyes and hilarious personalities keep me entertained and make my heart leap.

This animal is ‘demonic’ according to Ree Drummond
The Accidental Country Girl has a soft spot in her heart for basset hounds, but when it comes to one animal in particular, she doesn’t feel warm and fuzzy. On her website, Drummond revealed she doesn’t like possums. “Possums are everywhere,” she joked. “And demonic.”
Possums were apparently everywhere for Drummond’s brother-in-law, Tim. In a different website post, she says Tim had a 4th of July fireworks accident. One of the fireworks he was holding exploded in his hand. He had to be taken to the emergency room.
While Tim was there, he received Demerol for the pain. According to Drummond’s sister-in-law, Missy, Tim saw a bunch of imaginary possums on his way home. We’re guessing the medicine was quite strong and caused him to hallucinate.
How many pets does Ree Drummond have?
As of this writing, Drummond has seven dogs. She has Labrador retrievers named Duke and Lucy. She is also the proud pet parent of a German shepherd named Presley, and four basset hounds named Walter, Henry, Fred, and Rusty. Drummond used to have a basset hound named Charlie, but he died in 2017. She named her ice cream shop, Charlie’s, after him.
Drummond also has two barn cats named Kitten Kitten and Kitty Kitty. Kitten Kitten likes to cuddle with Duke and hang out with the rest of the dogs. In The Pioneer Woman magazine, a reader asked Drummond if she still has her cats and if they get along with the dogs. Drummond says she does and that the cats get along well with the dogs.
“We have two barn cats, but we only see one of them on a regular basis,” wrote Drummond. “The one that we do see gets along great with the dogs. He cuddles with Duke, especially when it’s cool outside—it’s funny. They’re unlikely bedfellows. We call him Kitten Kitten.”
