Ree Drummond shared the details of her ‘throw-together pasta’

Drummond wrote about the shrimp pasta recipe in a 2009 blog post on The Pioneer Woman website. “A quick (and delicious) throw-together pasta dish you finish off in a foil parcel in the oven,” she noted. “Serve right out of the foil for a fun presentation!”

“Now, this is a fun meal to cook. Yummy, delicious, scrumptious … and fun, fun, fun for a big group,” Drummond wrote. “The point here is, you just throw a bunch of sauce ingredients into a skillet, cook it up for a few minutes, then throw raw shrimp and (partially cooked) pasta on top.”

The Food Network host continued, “Then you wrap up all the deliciousness in a big foil parcel and finish off the cooking in the oven. It turns into a big, beautiful package of yum. The seafood cooks in the foil, which means all the juices and aroma stay in there … it’s so utterly delightful.”

Drummond noted that she used shrimp, but any type of seafood works.

How to make Ree Drummond’s shrimp pasta recipe

Drummond demonstrated how to make the easy dinner idea in a video for the Food Network. She heated olive oil and butter in a skillet then cooked the shrimp for 2 minutes, turning once. “These shrimp are going to go in the oven so I don’t even need to cook them all the way,” she explained. “I’m just getting a little bit of color on the outside.”

She added more oil and butter to the pan and cooked minced garlic. Then Drummond added white wine, diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes and simmered the mixture for 7 minutes.

The Pioneer Woman star overlapped two large pieces of foil on a sheet pan and added cooked linguine to the foil. Then she spread the sauce over the top and placed the shrimp on the pasta. She folded up the foil to make a packet and placed it in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes.

“It’s so, so simple — but there’s something special about it,” the Food Network host said. After opening the packet, Drummond finished the dish by pouring warm heavy cream over it and sprinkled on basil and parmesan cheese.

“I highly recommend serving with a loaf of crusty bread,” she said. “Tear off a piece and dab it in that deliciousness and the heavens will open up.”
