‘The Princess Switch 4’: Will There be a Fourth Installment Next Holiday Season?
Netflix has done it again, with the November release of an installment of The Princess Switch series of movies.
Like the other movies, the latest one is Christmas-themed and features Vanessa Hudgens in multiple roles, all wrapped up in an unlikely plot.
But is this the end of the road for The Princess Switch? Here’s what we know.
‘The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star’ premiered November 2021
The newest movie in the franchise marries elements of both previous movies, with an action-packed heist as well as some romance.
According to The Daily Beast, the three roles Hudgens plays are all members of royalty in a Christmas-loving kingdom called Montenero. Despite being identical, the characters are not sisters, but distant cousins, named Margaret, Stacy, and Fiona.
The first movie was a typical Christmas-themed romantic comedy, with Margaret and Stacy both finding love. The second one changed the pattern, introducing Fiona, who, despite being another look-alike, was a villain they had to battle.
For the third installment, Netflix described Romancing the Star as a heist movie, with a dramatic mission to rescue a priceless heirloom.
The item at stake is The Star of Peace, a Christmas tree topper that reportedly belonged to Santa Claus himself. The Vatican loaned it to Montenero for a huge Christmas festival. When it’s stolen, it’s up to Stacy, Margaret, and Fiona to find it and get it back.
Since the first movie had two Hudgens characters, and the second one had three, people were excited to see if this one featured four. It didn’t, but is there still a chance that a quad of Hudgenses could happen?
What could ‘The Princess Switch 4’ be about?
According to Cosmopolitan, Netflix hasn’t yet said if there will be a fourth movie in the franchise. This is a matter of concern for fans because the third movie was announced to be in the works before the second one even aired.
But although it isn’t known if the fourth Princess Switch movie will happen, people are already speculating about what the plot could be.
Because all of the movies are so different from each other, it’s impossible to guess what the next one might focus on. Fans still hold out hope for a fourth Hudgens character, even though some think that could get a little confusing.
Regardless of where the plot could go, most people are pretty certain that it couldn’t happen without Hudgens. Some of the other actors who are expected to return are Sam Palladio, Nick Sagar, and possibly Remy Hii.
But is there still enough interest in the franchise to make another Princess Switch?
The response to ‘Princess Switch 3’
There were plenty of complaints about Romancing the Star (via CBS42). At one hour and 45 minutes, it’s pretty long for a Christmas movie.
And viewers who were hoping for a return to the original’s romantic roots were only partly satisfied, as Fiona confronted her struggle to open up to love.
But like the fictional Montenaro, fans of The Princess Switch simply can’t get enough of Christmas – whether it’s delivered with a side of romance, crime-fighting, or both. The second movie had tepid reviews too, but that didn’t stop audiences from happily watching.
Will there be a fourth movie? Only time (and Netflix) will tell. But it seems like a sure bet that fans will tune in to watch if they’re given the chance.
