The Real Reason James Charles Posted Content for Sugar Bear Hair
It’s the feud that has taken over the internet. James Charles vs. Tati Westbrook. The two YouTubers had been friends for years, with Charles feeling so close to Westbrook that he even commonly referred to her as his mom. But the two’s relationship has gone up in flames, while the rest of the internet watched and wondered what was going on.
What happened between Charles and Westbrook?
The feud started in April when Charles attended Coachella. While there, he posted content for Sugar Bear Hair. That might sound like a normal thing for a beauty influencer to do, but the problem is that Sugar Bear Hair is a direct competitor for Westbrook’s Halo Beauty products.
Westbrook saw this as a complete betrayal and made a 40-minute video titled “BYE SISTER,” detailing how she felt about Charles’ actions.
“My relationship with James Charles is not transactional,” she said in the video. “This is me having someone who I mentored, someone who I cared for, really not care for me. … I wrapped so much love around this kid. … I absolutely loved James Charles. My husband loved James Charles. He had an open door here in my home, anytime he had a problem, anytime he needed life advice, business advice, we were here for him.”
“This is more than just a sponsored post,” she said. “It has layers. There’s so much going on with James Charles right now that I do not support. That I do not agree with. Fame, power, and a fat bank account will change almost anyone. And if you don’t have people who will tell you to your face that you’re doing the wrong things, you will change. I tried to be that person for you, I really tried. I don’t think there’s any getting through with you and I don’t want to be friends with you. I don’t want to be associated with you. And I need to say that publicly so that this chapter will be closed.”
Why did Charles post for Sugar Bear Hair?
Since the feud began, Charles has lost over 3 million subscribers to his YouTube channel. All of this drama and the demise of his internet personality may make you wonder, what made him post for Sugar Bear Hair in the first place?
Well, in a new video, he explained everything.
Charles said that on the second weekend of Coachella, he was only able to get a VIP pass to the festival. While there, he was mobbed by fans and didn’t feel safe.
So, he reached out to YouTuber Nikita Dragun, who was working with Sugar Bear Hair and asked if the company could get him an artist’s pass, which was more exclusive than the VIP pass that he had and would keep him away from the public.
He claimed that he reached out to Westbrook to explain what happened but couldn’t get ahold of her.
Charles responds to Westbrook’s allegations
In her “BYE SISTER” video, Westbrook also alleged that Charles liked to manipulate and take advantage of straight men.
In his video, Charles denied those claims.
“I have never and would never and will never use my fame, money or power to manipulate or get any sexual action from a guy,” he said. “That is disgusting and blows my mind. And the fact that Tati brought this up blows my mind because she knows the real story.”
Though Westbrook has made some pretty damning allegations about him, Charles ultimately still wants to be friends with the guru.
“I still have love for these people and I hope that one day we all can sit down together in a meeting for closure, and also to discuss how in the future if problems do come up we can talk in private, only us involved,” he said. “But right now, I just need time and space to kind of get my head back to where it needs to be and get my mental health back together before I, kind of, rekindle those friendships because everything that happened still really, really hurt.”
