The Real Reason ‘Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch and Boyfriend, Travis Mills, Called It Quits
Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch is officially a single woman.
The actress, who plays Cheryl Blossom in the hit C.W. series, and her boyfriend, Travis Mills, recently called it quits after being together for three years.
While their split took many fans by surprise, others have been speculating that there has been trouble in paradise for some time now.
Though the couple has decided to go their separate ways, Mills recently addressed their split, revealing that there will always be love between them.
The couple recently split after 3 years of dating
On Feb. 19, news broke that Petsch and Mills broke up after spending three years together.
Though sources didn’t go into details on why the couple split, they did, however, reveal that the 25-year-old actress had allegedly “moved her stuff out of his Los Angeles place,” before their breakup was even confirmed.
The couple sparked breakup speculation earlier this month after Petsch attended several Oscars parties without her 30-year-old beau.
Additionally, Us Weekly pointed out that the pair had posted less of each other on their social media pages as of recently and further fueled speculation when they didn’t post about each other on Valentine’s Day.
Petsch and Mills began dating in 2017 after the Ghosted host reached out to her on Facebook following the premiere Riverdale, which aired in January of that year.
“He congratulated me on the show. He had auditioned for Jughead. I think we just randomly had mutual friends, so we added each other,” she told Us Weekly in October 2017. “We kept in touch very rarely, not even that much, from January to February, and then the day I got back from season one in February I was bored in L.A., believe it or not. I was like, ‘What am I gonna do?’ I got my hair cut and he texted me like, ‘Let’s go to a movie!’ We hung out and spent every single day together that I’ve been in L.A. since then, since February.”
Though the couple shared much of their relationship on social media, in the beginning, they previously decided to post less of each other to keep their relationship out of the public eye.
“I used to share a lot about [my relationship Travis Mills] online, and now that I don’t, people just assume we’re no longer together,” the actress told Nylon in August 2019. “But in reality, I realize that it’s so much more special and safe if I don’t share a lot of it.”
Mills says he couldn’t be more grateful for this relationship
A day after multiple outlets reported the couple had gone their separate ways, Mills took to Instagram to confirm his split from Petsch in a lengthy post outlining their relationship.
“Been writing, and re-writing this the last few days,” he began. “I’ve had to accept there’s no possible way to capture a love of this scale or its significance to me, in a few paragraphs. That said, I’ll try, because so many of you supported us over the years like a family would. So here it goes.”
Mills goes on to describes his romance with Petsch to be the “most non-superficial and grounding experience,” despite their relationship always being in the public eye.
He then calls the actress a “compassionate, smart & wonderful” person and shares that he’s “incredibly grateful” for having spent the last three years with her.
“The personal growth made possible by our time together I wouldn’t trade for anything,” he wrote.” Red carpets, parties, photoshoots, T.V. etc create this alternate reality where we are one-dimensional people, free of real world challenges, kicking our feet up, waiting for the next big job. I wish our lives really looked like a google image search of our names.”
He then reveals that though his time with Petsch was ideal, the constant separation was something they’d been dealing with for some time now.
The actor continued, “In reality we’re ambitious & hard-working individuals, dealing with rejection, in different states/countries, wondering what the next best move is, trying to see friends/family, take care of our dogs, answering an ocean of e-mails, balancing REAL LIFE & doing it all while being separated by it.”
The actor doesn’t regret anything about his romance with Petsch
Though it pains him that their “journey has come to a close,” the actor says he appreciates everything this relationship has taught him, not only about himself but life in general.
“It challenged me, kept me honest, made me more compassionate, and helped me do some very necessary growing up,” Mills shared. “The highest highs were made better, the lowest lows were livable, because of her. I’ve learned so much about myself & life from that unconditional love and support.”
He concluded his post by sharing that he has no regrets being with Petsch and will continue to care and support her moving forward.
“While I’m holding back tears I’m excited to see what you do next,” he expressed. “I’ll always have your back. Trying to capture the gratitude, love & pain in a few paragraphs, is impossible. I’m not deleting any of our images, I regret nothing.”
