The Secret to Adele’s 20-Pound Weight Loss: Working Out and Skipping Snacks
Adele has slimmed down following her split from husband Simon Konecki, losing 20 pounds over the past several months. The “Skyfall” singer showed off her new figure at Drake’s birthday party in Los Angeles on October 23, where she partied with other celebrity guests like Kylie Jenner, Shay Mitchell, French Montana, and Snoop Dogg.
“I used to cry but now I sweat ,” the 31-year-old captioned a photo from the event.
How Adele lost the weight
Adele hasn’t spoken publicly about her weight loss. But an insider who spoke to Life & Style shed some light on her transformation.
“While Adele would never starve herself, she’s avoiding snacking in-between meals and has cut back on carbs — it’s certainly paid off because she’s lost 20 pounds,” the source said. “Working out has also become part of her daily routine. It helps being in L.A. because being healthy is very much part of the lifestyle.”
The 15-time Grammy winner hired a personal trainer to help her lose weight and get fit, according to Us Weekly. Her workout routine included 60-minute sessions that combined cardio, circuit training, and Pilates, a source told the magazine.
Her goal is to be healthy
While getting more exercise and changing her diet had helped the British chanteuse lose weight, slimming down wasn’t her primary goal, the source told Us Weekly. Rather, her goal was to get healthy and be a positive example for her 6-year-old son.
“She really wants to be healthy and set a good example for her son,” the insider explained. “She’s more focused on feeling good and the health benefits than the weight loss.”
In 2012, Adele talked about her weight and body image in an interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes, saying she didn’t feel pressure to be a “skinny-mini.” Her comments came after fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld stirred controversy when he called her “ a little too fat” in an interview.
In 2015, she shared that she’d made changes to her diet and lifestyle in order to protect her voice following a vocal hemorrhage. She cut out caffeine and alcohol, gave up smoking, and began avoiding foods that were spicy and citrusy.
“It’s f***ing boring,” she told Australia’s Daily Life. “But I don’t think you take [your voice] seriously until you’ve had an incident.”
She’s said it’s ‘annoying’ that there’s so much focus on her weight
In the past, Adele has opened up about the media’s focus on her body.
“I’ve always been asked questions about my body and my weight and my size and my style and stuff like that,” she told 60 Minutes Australia, per the Daily Mail. “And I totally understand. It’s a bit annoying that men don’t get asked that question as much.”
“But other than that it seemed to astound people that I was plus size and being successful, that was how I felt,” she added. “I don’t care anyway. You don’t see music, you listen to music, so what does it even matter?”
