The ‘Sex and the City’ Revival Has Found Its Fourth Friend
The Sex and the City revival will soon strut its way onto TV. Titled And Just Like That…, the series will focus on Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) as glamorous 50-somethings. Their friend circle no longer includes Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones, but it looks like there’s a new friend occupying her space.
What will happen to Kim Cattrall in the ‘Sex and the City’ revival?
The announcement of And Just Like That… was met with plenty of excitement, but some fans were naturally a little skeptical due to Cattrall’s absence.
The actor, who had one of the biggest and best parts of the show, has made it clear that she’s done with the character. That left some people wondering about how the series will handle her exit. Details are vague, but it sounds like it’ll be written as a falling out between the girls.
“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” HBO Max executive Casey Bloys told TVLine. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life… They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”
Carrie Bradshaw has reportedly found a new best friend
In Samantha’s absence, Boogie Nights star Nicole Ari Parker will reportedly take over as the fourth friend. Parker was already announced to play Lisa Todd Wexley, “a documentarian and Park Avenue mother of three,” per The Hollywood Reporter. But The Daily Mail has offered more insight into her role.
“Everyone has been saying there can never be another Samantha but, actually, Nicole’s character is very much inhabiting that space. She’s someone who has come into Carrie’s life in the decades since the original show ended,” a source told the outlet.
“They are fast friends and the character of Lisa bears more than a passing resemblance to Samantha,” the source continued. “She’s feisty and fearless. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She knows what she wants in life and in the bedroom. She’s Carrie’s best friend and an integral part of the plot of the new series. She’s slipped very easily into the foursome.”
Parker was recently spotted with the ladies of Sex and the City, posing with them in a photo that Sarah Jessica posted to her social media. Parker was cast in the show along with Sara Ramirez, Karen Pittman, and Sarita Choudhury following earlier criticism for a lack of representation.
When does ‘And Just Like That…’ come out?
