‘The Sinner’: Matt Bomer Lost His Voice ‘Within 2 Hours of Wrapping’ Season 3
Actor Matt Bomer stars in The Sinner Season 3. But when filming ended on the latest installment of the USA Network series, the Golden Globe winner had no voice left.
Matt Bomer plays Jamie Burns on ‘The Sinner’
One of Netflix’s top shows at the time of publication, The Sinner is a USA program based on Petra Hammesfahr’s novel of the same name. Each new season focuses on a different investigation headed up by Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman).
Introduced in the show’s third season is Bomer’s character, Jamie Burns. Jamie’s an upstanding citizen and expectant father living in a small town in upstate New York. But everything changes when he’s involved in a car accident resulting in the death of his college friend, Nick (Chris Messina).
As The Sinner Season 3 progresses, Ambrose senses there’s something off about what appears to be a straightforward investigation. He soon discovers there’s much more going on than meets the eye. And at the center of it is Burns.
The role took a ‘huge psychological and physical toll’ on the actor
During a phone interview with Collider in February 2020, Bomer opened up about filming the USA drama series. He explained that playing the role of suspected murderer Burns took a lot out of him. By the time production ended on The Sinner Season 3, he didn’t have a voice.
“The Sinner was one of those jobs that took such a huge psychological and physical toll on me,” Bomer said. “Literally, within two hours of wrapping, I completely lost my voice. It got waylaid, within two hours wrapping.”
He had about a week and a half to rest and recover before going to work on another TV show. After The Sinner, Bomer headed to Atlanta, Georgia, to start voicing Negative Man on new episodes of HBO Max’s superhero TV show, Doom Patrol.
‘The Sinner’ Season 4 is on the way
Already watched every episode of The Sinner? Don’t worry because more are on the way. USA renewed the mystery series in June 2020. Originally slated for a 2021 premiere, The Sinner Season 4 has been impacted, like countless other movies and TV shows, by the coronavirus.
“That’s still in the works, and now probably more than ever because of all this production that got arrested and isn’t happening,” Pullman told GQ in March 2020.
Given the premiere dates of previous seasons — The Sinner Season 1 in August 2017, season 2 in August 2018, and season 3 in February 2020 — and the impact of COVID-19, it’s difficult to pinpoint when new episodes will air. In the meantime, fans can watch the show on Netflix.
