‘The Sopranos’ Featured Lady Gaga In a Scene Most Fans Missed
Most people first encountered Lady Gaga when “Just Dance,” her first single, became a huge hit in 2008. In truth, Lady Gaga was in the entertainment world before that with minor television roles before her music career catapulted her to superstardom.
What shows did Lady Gaga appear on? What other projects has she worked on since?
The Sopranos
Considered one of the best TV shows ever to air according to LADBible, The Sopranos debuted in 1999. The show ran for six seasons and received multiple Golden Globe and Emmy Awards during that time.
The show took a fresh approach to the mobster trope by presenting a look at the life of Mafia boss Tony Soprano. The audience explored his world from his point of view and through his conversations with his psychotherapist.
As we watch Tony running his crime syndicate, spending time with his family, and in therapy, we get some of the best moments on television. There are scenes that show the love Tony has for his family and friends. Other scenes offer moments of pure dark comedic genius.
Tony’s personal life is framed by the dark world of the mafia. The show spares no one’s sensibilities when it comes to depicting aggression, depravity, and violence.
Now twenty years since it debuted, The Sopranos continues to resonate with audiences.
The Telltale Moozadell
In season three of the show, Tony is dealing with a lot. On top of that, in an episode called “The Telltale Moozadell,” his son AJ finds himself in a lot of trouble for vandalizing his school’s swimming pool with his friends. In the vandalism scene, according to Screen Rant, a 15-year-old Lady Gaga appeared as an extra called Girl at Swimming Pool #2.
In the episode that aired in 2001, Lady Gaga is a red-haired girl who watches and laughs as AJ and others bring a faculty member’s belongings into the area to dump them in the pool. The group then decides to break into the trophy case and throw the school’s trophies into the pool for good measure.
It would be seven years before Lady Gaga shot to fame with her musical career. But the young singer was already in the entertainment industry as extra and then in smaller roles like her appearance in the MTV reality show Boiling Points.
In that minor role, Lady Gaga is shown enjoying a salad in a restaurant until she’s told she has a phone call. She returns to find her meal has been dumped in the garbage. When she complains, it’s taken from the garbage and given back to her.
An award-winning television actress
The award-winning singer and songwriter returned to television in a big way in 2015. Lady Gaga took on the role of The Countess in the fifth season of the hit show American Horror Story.
Elizabeth “The Countess” was a central character in American Horror Story: Hotel and appeared in every episode as the owner of the Hotel Cortez. At 112 years-old, The Countess carried a vaguely defined blood virus that required a regular diet of blood and sex to maintain.
Lady Gaga’s performance as the glamorous and deadly Countess earned her the Golden Globe in 2016 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series for the role. She was the second actress on the show to win the award. Jessica Lange won for her role in American Horror Story: Murder House as Constance Langdon.
Lady Gaga returned for the sixth season, American Horror Story: Roanoke, in a much smaller role as an ancient witch called Scáthach. We learn during the season that Scáthach was the original “supreme” witch. The revelation tied the sixth season of the show to the third season, American Horror Story: Coven.
Fans of the singer have been hoping Lady Gaga would return to American Horror Story since.
