The Tinder Swindler’s Victims Have a GoFundMe Page
Since premiering on Netflix on February 2, 2022, The Tinder Swindler has become wildly popular. The documentary has been trending on the popular streaming app for weeks and sparking discussions on social media. The film tells the story of Shimon Heyada Hayut, who now goes by the name of Simon Leviev, and how he allegedly managed to trick three victims into giving him large amounts of cash.
Who are the victims of ‘The Tinder Swindler’?
Though Leviev has been accused of defrauding countless people across the globe, The Tinder Swindler focuses on his relationships with three women. Cecilie Fjellhoy, Ayleen Charlotte, and Pernilla Sjöholm all had personal relationships with Leviv after meeting him on Tinder. Charlotte and Fjellhoy both had romantic relationships with Leviev, which they believed to be exclusive. Meanwhile, Sjöholm had had a platonic relationship with Leviev but considered him to be a close friend.
How did Simon Leviev allegedly defraud all three women?
Leviev presented himself as “The Prince of Diamonds” claiming to be CEO of LLD Diamonds. Throughout The Tinder Swindler, viewers learn how Leviev was able to convince his alleged victims that he was a billionaire. He wined and dined Charlotte, Sjöholm, and Fjellhoy and formed close bonds with them. Once he established his connections he claimed that his “enemies” were after him, creating elaborate stories to support these claims.
Because all three of Leviev’s victims had seen evidence of his alleged wealth, when he asked to borrow money they were quick to oblige. All three women took out loans in order to meet Leviev’s enormous financial demands. Fjellhoy alone claims that she lent The Tinder Swindler a whopping $250,000, which she has never received. Now, the victims are hoping to recoup some of that money via a GoFundMe Page.
How much money have Cecilie Fjellhoy, Ayleen Charlotte, and Pernilla Sjöholm raised so far?
On February 5, 2022, three days after The Tinder Swindler premiered on Netflix, Sjöholm, Fjellhoy, and Charlotte started a GoFundMe page. The three women started a campaign to raise some of the money that Leviev allegedly defrauded them for. Their goal is £600,000 which equates to $813,240.00 at the current exchange rate. At the time of this article, Leviev’s three victims have raised £164,167 or $222,396.21
On the fundraiser page, the women express that they’ve received a ton of support since The Tinder Swindler premiered. “You’re probably here because you’ve heard about our story, and we appreciate you taking the time to search and find this page,” they penned. “The past few days have been a whirlwind, and we three (Ayleen, Pernilla, and Cecilie) have been completely shocked and floored by the flood of compassion and support from everyone. The sheer love is more than we ever expected, and we appreciate you all so much.”
‘The Tinder Swindler’ cast reveals why they started a GoFundMe page
Continuing on, The Tinder Swindler’s alleged victims explain why they’ve chosen to start a fundraiser. “After careful consideration, and many chats, we have decided to start this GoFundMe fundraiser,” they wrote. “So many people reached out to us asking if we had one, and it hadn’t occurred to us to make one prior to this. However, we’ve spotted plenty of fakes, which makes us uneasy. We don’t want more people getting defrauded. We realise there are a thousand other worthy causes to donate to and remain forever grateful if you choose to donate to this one. All we want are our lives back.”
Only time will tell if Fjellhoy, Charlotte, and Sjöholm will reach their goal. However, it seems as if there are plenty of The Tinder Swindler viewers who are willing to help them try to get their lives back on track.
