The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will bring the Hargreeves siblings into an alternate reality, potentially fighting for their existence. And some fans wonder, if Allison Hargreeves were to rumor herself, could she grow stronger, change the course of history, and save her family?

The Umbrella Academy is based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s award-winning Dark Horse Comics series. In the graphic novels and the Netflix show, Allison Hargreeves uses her “I heard a rumor” power to manipulate people into doing her bidding.

But in the comics, Allison wields far more abilities than that. She can bend space and time to her will. And she can create things out of nothing because of her power to manipulate reality.

Some fans wonder if Allison can make her own powers grow

Allison’s powers were limited in the first two seasons of The Umbrella Academy. But some fans of the Netflix series wonder if Allison could use her abilities on herself and grow stronger in season 3.

“Allison could rumor anything right in order to get what she wanted,” one Reddit fan theorized. “I mean, she could have just said, ‘I heard a rumor the apocalypse didn’t happen’ or just got herself more powerful and rumor some more powers for herself?”

“Maybe she can, but she doesn’t know how yet,” another Redditor added. “All she knows is she can manipulate people using the phrase ‘I heard a rumor.’”

One fan was skeptical Allison would ever wield the power to change history. But they think it is possible she gains the ability to warp reality, similar to the comics.

“They’ve described her as near-omnipotent in the comics and while she’s a very skilled reality warper [sic],” the Redditor suggested. “The closest thing to reality-warping we’ve seen in the show was the s2 opener. So I’m thinking by the end of the series she’ll become a low or mid-level reality warper.”

Showrunner Steve Blackman did hint the Hargreeves will grow stronger in ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 3

Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy will follow the Hargreeves as they take on the alternate-reality version of themselves known as the Sparrow Academy. The siblings will be separated from the world they know. But showrunner Steve Blackman teased that they’ll still have their baggage to carry in this new reality.

“They’re terrible for the world because they’re so dysfunctional as a family,” he told TheWrap ahead of the Season 3 renewal announcement. “These guys can’t get it right, both in their relationships with each other and as superheroes. But I think they’re getting a little bit better, and hopefully, if we’re lucky enough to get a Season 3, they will improve slightly.”

This new existence will be challenging Blackman noted. But because they’re together, the Hargreeves will evolve and be much stronger this time around.

“They’re all sort of growing up,” Blackman explained. “I like to think as we go forward that their powers are also evolving. They’re learning new things.”

“They were trained until they were 14 or 15 by a very dysfunctional dad but then the family blew apart before they could finish their training,” he added. “They might even discover in the future that their powers are stronger when they’re together.”
