David Castañeda portrays the knife-throwing, combat master Diego Hargreeves, AKA Number 2, in the Netflix original series The Umbrella Academy. The actor has grown in popularity since starring as a main character in the premiere season. However, he did appear in some popular shows before getting his shot at one of the seven unstable Hargreeves children. If Number Two looks familiar, it’s likely because he’s not new to the game…just a bit new to the associated stardom and fandom.

David Castañeda played Jorge Castillo in seven episodes of ‘Switched at Birth’

Castillo is one of the main character’s (Daphne) supervisors at the local clinic where she serves community service time. Castillo chose to be a nurse after witnessing how they took care of his sick mother years before. Castillo winds up falling for Daphne, even though his family does not approve. Because Daphne is deaf, he even begins taking ASL classes to communicate with her. Daphne winds up choosing someone else over Castillo, despite all of his heartwarming romantic gestures.

Castañeda appeared as Jorge Castillo in the following Switched at Birth episodes: “Love Seduces Innocence, Pleasure Entraps, and Remorse Follows,” “The Ambush,” “The Past (Forgotten-Swallowed),” “Dance Me to the End of Love,” “The Scream,” “It Hurts to Wait with Love If Love Is Somewhere Else,” and “Drowning Girl.”

‘The Umbrella Academy’ star also appeared in ‘Jane the Virgin’

Castañeda also appeared in three episodes of Jane the Virgin. He appeared in “Chapter 5” in 2014, and again in “Chapter 11” and “Chapter 12” in 2015. His character, Nicholas, plays Rogelio’s assistant, and he attempts to sabotage Rogelio in an effort to become a soap opera star.

While the role was not very long-lived, Castañeda got a chance to show his face in a major TV show with quite the following, yet the actor also appeared in some TV movies and blockbusters before The Umbrella Academy.

Castañeda also appeared in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, The Ascent, El Chicano, Wishful Thinking, The Player, Freaks of Nature, Blindspot, Human Behavior, Adventures in Love and Babysitting, and more. Yet, despite appearing in various shows and movies, The Umbrella Academy fans will always see Castañeda as a Hargreeves and hope he continues on in the role for many more seasons to come.
