Netflix’s hit series The Umbrella Academy Season 3 won’t return to our screens until some time in 2022. The show is based on the Dark Horse comics of the same name. However, the season 2 finale left fans with plenty of questions to ponder over while we wait. The first two seasons loosely followed the events in the comics, but season 3 looks to go in a different direction.

'The Umbrella Academy' Season 3 characters, the Hargreeves siblings, seen here in a production still from season 2. Allison, Luther, Vanya, Diego, Five, Klaus are all dressed in black and staring at something off screen.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 2 undid everything that occurred in season 1

The Umbrella Academy follows a group of emotionally dysfunctional siblings with superpowers trying to save the world from impending doom. The reluctant superheroes tend to cause chaos as they try to save the world, so it’s no surprise things didn’t go as planned at the end of season 3.

When we last saw the Hargreeves siblings, they stopped Vanya from causing a nuclear explosion. While things seemed peachy with Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Five, and Vanya, they returned to the present year to discover they had created an alternate timeline. In the new timeline, The Umbrella Academy didn’t exist, and instead, The Sparrow Academy had taken its place. This new group came across as much more sinister, and they certainly weren’t happy when the original siblings appeared. Perhaps, the most significant change, though, saw Ben as the ring leader of The Sparrow Academy.

With everything seemingly restored from The Umbrella Academy Season 1 apocalypse, some of us are scratching our heads about what else could pop up in this timeline. Could each of the Hargreeves siblings have a doppelganger in this new world?

Two sets of Hargreeves siblings could majorly complicate things in the upcoming season

Time travel is a fickle thing, and with it comes loads of possibilities. When working with alternate timelines, you have an entirely different chain of events. However, in The Umbrella Academy Season 2 finale, folks watched an evil version of previously-sweet Ben Hargreeves. Although, now he leads The Sparrow Academy.

We already know Reginald Hargreeves initially adopted all seven members of The Umbrella Academy. One could conclude that after meeting the disastrous group of siblings in Dallas, he adopted seven different children this time around. However, since Ben was already dead, Reginald didn’t know to pass on adopting Ben. This explains how he made it into The Sparrow Academy.

This also means that the possibility of Normal Ben still exists in the new timeline. If Normal Ben exists, could evil versions of the other Hargreeves siblings exist too? The Hargreeves brothers and sisters are already chaotic enough when they aren’t evil. Imagine how much damage they could do if they were actively trying to be bad.
