‘The Umbrella Academy’s Emmy Raver-Lampman and Tom Hopper Reveal Who They’re Closest With Behind the Scenes
Emmy Raver-Lampman and Tom Hopper play Allison and Luther Hargreeves — two of the super siblings adopted by Colm Feore’s Sir Reginald Hargreeves in the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. As part of such an iconic ensemble, many fans are curious about which castmates are closest behind the scenes.
Find out who Raver-Lampman and Hopper are friends closest to in The Umbrella Academy cast.
The Hargreeves siblings are a dysfunctional bunch in ‘The Umbrella Academy’
Each of the Hargreeves siblings comes with their own set of emotional baggage. There’s Luther, who struggles with authority and abandonment issues. Diego (David Castañeda) is the hot-headed brooding type who loathes being “Number Two.”
Allison might seem like she has the world at her fingertips, but she suffers from imposter syndrome because she never really had to work for anything — she would simply “rumor” her desires into existence.
Klaus (Robert Sheehan) has an addiction to drugs and alcohol. Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) is bitter and kind of a control freak. Ben (Justin H. Min) is no longer alive and feels he has missed out on his life’s purpose. As for Vanya (Ellen Page) — she is broken, having been mistreated her entire life.
Despite their issues, the Hargreeves are a family. The same can be said of the actors who play them.
Allison and Luther Hargreeves share something of a romance
Throughout seasons 1 and 2 of The Umbrella Academy, we learn that Luther and Allison have romantic feelings for one another. They never had a chance to explore those feelings, though, both because Sir Reginald would never allow it and because they’re essentially siblings.
Despite the romance between their characters, there are no romantic feelings between Raver-Lampman and Hopper in reality. He is married with two children, and Raver-Lampman is reportedly dating Hamilton star Daveed Diggs.
Emmy Raver-Lampman and Tom Hopper are close with all of their castmates
In promoting the first season of The Umbrella Academy, Raver-Lampman and Hopper spoke with Tribute Movies. When asked which cast member they felt the closest bond to, Raver-Lampman had a hard time choosing just one. Hopper couldn’t have agreed more with the sentiment.
“What I love about this cast is that we all have an individual relationship with everyone that’s very special,” Hopper clarified. “And then you have the group and we all kind of complement each other as a group — kind of like the show, in a weird way. That’s what’s so nice about it.”
Hopper explained how he could hang out with his Umbrella Academy castmates individually or as a group and have a great time either way. Regardless of who, Hopper said he could “get on [with each of them] like a house on fire.”
Raver-Lampman expressed similar feelings. “We’re so lucky to have a cast where everyone is here to do the show justice and do their job,” she added. She loves how her colleagues put aside their ego to create a show as compelling as The Umbrella Academy — and have fun while doing so!
