‘The View’: Meghan McCain Celebrates Show’s Ratings Upon Her Return
Meghan McCain was away from The View during the latter part of 2020. The conservative co-host was on maternity leave and recovering from the birth of her baby Liberty Sage. McCain returned to the ABC talk show at the beginning of 2021 and the success of the ratings have been phenomenal. The show continues to break barriers and McCain celebrated a new accomplishment.
What is Meghan McCain celebrating?
The format of The View works because the ladies debate on the latest “Hot Topics” and all the drama coming out of the White House. Although Ana Navarro identifies as a Republican, she is not a Donald Trump apologist. McCain has used her platform to raise issues that the extreme right has concerns about and is usually on the opposite end of the rest of her co-hosts. The latter has led to many heated moments, which viewers love to see.
Ratings for the daytime show have been healthy, especially after McCain’s return. The View’s verified Twitter account recently posted an article that gives insight into how well the show is doing with audiences.
“The View is the most-watched daytime talk show, ranking No. 1 in [households] and total viewers,” the tweet read. “[Year to year, the show] sees double-digit increases across the board. Season to date-, is up in total viewers and women 25-54 [has] delivered its most-watched season in 7 years.”
“Hey now,” McCain retweeted the message.
Meghan McCain and Joy Behar clash
It wasn’t long before McCain and Joy Behar clashed on-air. Following McCain’s maternity leave, she went viral after the comedian told her she had not missed her while she was gone. The two stars had been talking about political parties and Behar said that the Republican party was in “much more trouble.” As a die-hard Republican, McCain did not take this comment well and interrupted Behar as she was speaking.
“Are you kidding me?” McCain interrupted Behar and going on a rant dismissing the latter.
Behar is a pro at debating on TV and interrupted McCain saying, “Excuse me, I’m not done.”
It was at this moment where McCain used a little sarcasm that Behar was not able to read correctly and everything exploded.
“Joy you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave. You missed fighting with me,” McCain teased.
“I did not. I did not miss you. Zero,” Behar replied as Whoopi Goldberg tried to jump in and break up the feud.
McCain was so shocked that Behar said that live that it took a moment for her to process what her co-host had just said.
“You know what? That’s so nasty,” McCain said after Behar’s zing. “That’s like so nasty, I was teasing. Like really? That is so rude.”
Despite the on-air clashes, McCain has been a success upon her return to the show. For the show to work there needs to be controversy and the ratings are a reflection that people are tuning in and watching.
The View airs weekday mornings at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT/CT on ABC.
