Meghan McCain is saying goodbye to The View, according to new reports. So, why is the tv personality finally leaving the show?
Meghan McCain leaving ‘The View’
According to reports from The Daily Mail, McCain is leaving the show despite having two more years in her contract.
“Meghan will announce her resignation on Thursday’s show,” a Disney source told the outlet.
The source revealed that McCain’s co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Ana Navarro “are not yet aware that Meghan has resigned.”
Though the exit may seem sudden to fans of the show, McCain feels that now is the time to go.
‘We have tried to keep her, but she is adamant that now is the right time for her to leave,’ the source said.
McCain has not given any reason for her departure other than the fact that she feels like it’s a good time to leave. Reps for McCain did not respond to requests for comment at the time of publication.
McCain will film her last episode of The View at the end of July.
Rumors of Meghan leaving in the past
McCain has always been a controversial member of the cast. Her feuds with her co-stars often got heated and left fans of the show feeling impassioned as well. McCain often received backlash from viewers for her opinions.
In 2019, sources told The Daily Beast, that McCain felt like “a caged animal” amid all of the backlash from viewers.
“It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week,” a source close to McCain told the outlet. “If she doesn’t stay at The View, she will find other work.”
“We don’t want people to attack Meghan,” the show’s senior executive producer, Hilary Estey McLoughlin, told the outlet at the time. “We’re happy to have Meghan there. I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”
McLoughlin did acknowledge the reasoning behind McCain’s tense relationship with fans of the show.
“What happens with Meghan is that because she’s so passionate about what she’s talking about, and she feels very strongly that she’s carrying this mantle for the conservative perspective, and what she wants to talk about is so important to her, I think that’s the part that’s the most draining for her,” McLoughlin continued.
McCain did ultimately decide to return to the show at the time.
