‘The View’: Meghan McCain Slams ‘BS’ Claims ‘She’s Shook’ Over Job Security Fears
Meghan McCain is one of the pillars of The View. The ABC talk show simply would not exist if she was not on the show as the provided the conservative viewpoint. McCain is often at odds with the other co-hosts as they debate politics. Following her return from maternity leave, there was a report the Republican star was “shook” over job security fears. However, McCain slams that report on Twitter and this is what she had to say.
Insider says ‘The View’ ratings declined with Meghan McCain
When McCain returned from her maternity leave in January, there was a report that suggested the ratings for The View had dropped. An alleged insider said that ratings were higher when the conservative co-host was not there.
“The View did better ratings with Meghan being gone. For years people claimed that viewers tuned in for her craziness, but the numbers showed us otherwise,” an alleged source told Daily Mail. “The show actually broke a record during her maternity leave and now she realizes that she doesn’t have the job security that she once did. All of that has her shook.”
In contradiction of the insider, ABC News released a ratings report claiming it had seen year over year increase in January.
“The View is the most-watched daytime talk show, ranking No. 1 in [households] and total viewers,” the tweet read. “[Year to year, the show] sees double-digit increases across the board. Season to date-, is up in total viewers and women 25-54 [has] delivered its most-watched season in 7 years.”
Meghan McCain slams ‘toxic’ claims
Recently, McCain stumbled upon a tweet from a fan citing the Daily Mail article.
“The Daily Mail reports Meghan ‘NutMeg’ McCain is shook about her job security since returning from maternity leave because the show’s ratings were better in her absence and the Trump-supporting ABC News executive who protected her has left the network,” the tweet read.
McCain quoted the tweet and added, “Absolute. Complete. UTTER bulls**t! This is toxic. Garbage like this also scares other women from having babies and taking the time they are entitled to for maternity leave.”
Meghan McCain becomes a maternity leave crusader
Upon McCain’s return in January 2021, the star became a proponent of maternity leave. She said she wanted to use The View platform to raise awareness of how important it is for new mothers to take time off work.
“It really, really kicked my butt,” she said on the show. “I was planning on coming back to the show for the election in six weeks after I gave birth and I was physically unable to.”
McCain said that her husband and mother-in-law were of big help during the first weeks and was humbled by the experience. However, she also thought about the privilege she had that not all mother’s get when they have a baby.
“As I thought about it, the more angry I got that there weren’t women in the rest of America that had the same kind of luxury that I had working here at The View,” she said.
“We are the only developing nation that doesn’t supply women with paid family leave,” she said. “We as conservatives have to come together and allow all women in this country no matter where they’re from or their socioeconomic class the capacity to have what I just had, which is three months of bonding time and breastfeeding and healing.”
The View airs new episodes weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT on ABC.
