Why is Sara Haines returning?

Haines joined The View during season 19 in 2016. The show had a rotating chair of TV personalities taking a turn at the “Hot Topics” table. Haines always stood out because not only was she informed about the latest in politics, she debated with respect and not being combative.

The journalist also had a background hosting Good Morning America, and her sunny personality made her perfect for a daytime talk show. Haines departed the gabfest in 2018 to co-host a new third hour of GMA alongside Michael Strahan.

GMA Day seemed to struggle during its first season and was revamped in its second season when it was renamed Strahan, Sara and Keke when Keke Palmer became the third co-host.

Due to the pandemic, ABC shifted its focus to keep the American public informed about the latest news on the coronavirus. Although the alphabet network never officially canceled the show, it was not a surprise that they stopped airing it.

Sara Haines makes a comeback to ‘The View’

As ABC shifted GMA3 to keep its audience informed about COVID-19, Haines returned to The View as a guest co-host. Joy Behar had taken leave during the initial outbreak as the show continued to be produced in-studio.

When production shifted to remote, the co-hosts came back and Haines stopped appearing. However, Meghan McCain was absent one day and Haines was called back in to fill in for her. That’s when talks about a possible full-time return started. Fans were delighted to see her back on screen and commented on social media they wished she’d return.

It is worth noting that due to McCain’s pregnancy, she is expected to go on maternity leave in the coming weeks. The View also never filled Abby Huntsman’s spot when she left back in January. It is this void that Variety is reporting Haines is taking over.

When does ‘The View’ return?

It was at the end of July that The View aired its last live episode. The girls recalled the funny moments they went through broadcasting from their homes. After the bloopers video was shared on social media, McCain added a note confirming the show was going on hiatus.

“Thank you for a really wild, intense but memorable season,” McCain tweeted. “Today is our last episode and we are on hiatus for the summer. Grateful for this platform, my co-hosts, our fearless The View team and one of the last truly uncensored spaces in all of television. See you in September.”
