EGOT winner Whoopi Goldberg joined The View in 2007. Pursuing other passion projects outside of the “Hot Topics” table, Goldberg recently gave a hint on when she may possibly give up her moderator’s chair.

Whoopi Goldberg balances ‘The View’ with other projects

Goldberg has a full plate in addition to her full-time gig on The View. Currently producing The Emmett Till Story and getting ready to reprise her role as Guinan on Star Trek: Picard, Goldberg is co-producing the long-awaited Sister Act 3 with Tyler Perry and donning her habit as Deloris Van Cartier once again for the Disney Plus sequel.

“The nuns are all waiting,” the Ghost star told Variety. “Maybe there’s gonna be some of the kids [from Sister Act 2]. Who can say?”

With Goldberg’s extensive range of talent, it’s easy to speculate that she may soon leave the daytime talk show to solely work on film projects. Yet the Oscar winner is still enjoying the flexibility the show provides.

“I’m there until I don’t think I can do it anymore, but I’m not there yet,” she said. “As long as they allow me to do both [acting and hosting], I can do it. The minute they say, ‘No, you can’t,’ then I have to figure out what to do.”

‘The View’ isn’t enough for Whoopi Goldberg

The Nobody’s Fool star has previously spoken about needing several outlets of creativity outside of The View in order to feel fulfilled. Now with a cannabis product line and clothing brand in addition to her acting and producing agenda, Goldberg continues to branch out.

“What you’re asking is ‘Is The View enough?’,” she responded to a question in a 2019 New York Times interview. “It’s not. Ten years is a long time, and now I’m starting to do other stuff. I’m doing books. I’m adventuring into THC products. I’m creating the clothes.”

Goldberg admitted she isn’t a viewer (pardon the pun) of the daytime talk show, but noted The View’s popularity may be due to its spontaneity when speaking on controversial topics.

“I don’t really watch the show,” she revealed. “And I didn’t watch the show before I was on. I guess there’s nothing else like it. And because it’s live, I’m always surprised when people say the things they say. But you know, it’s five people talking, and then there’s this fascination with women and fighting.”

Whoopi Goldberg’s next passion project

According to Variety, Goldberg is now developing a script that features an older Black woman who acquires superpowers and follows her journey in channeling her newfound capabilities.

“Since I was a little kid, I’ve been obsessed with superheroes,” The View star said. “They’re all saving the earth all the time. But do you know who’s really going to save the earth? Old Black women.”

Goldberg is proud of her career, which spans over 40 years. The EGOT winner remains an icon in the entertainment industry.

“That I’m still here,” she remarked. “I didn’t fade away. I didn’t disappear. I’m still here and still here doing me.”
