‘The Voice’: Ariana Grande Is Replacing Nick Jonas as a Coach on the Show
Fans of The Voice are literally beside themselves with the latest news from the music competition series. Ariana Grande has joined the reality show as a coach for the forthcoming Season 21. The “thank u, next” singer will replace Nick Jonas and join fellow coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson.
Since Grande has been pretty low-key amid quarantine, focusing on herself, the release of her Positions album, and keeping her personal life mostly out of the limelight, fans of the singer and The Voice never saw this coming.
Now, the singer is getting candid about why she decided to put on her coaching hat and bring her signature ponytail to the beloved series.
Ariana Grande announced that she will be joining ‘The Voice’
In a tweet that stunned fans across the nation, Grande announced that she would be taking over for Jonas when the new season of The Voice begins. “surprise !!!,” she tweeted. “i am beyond thrilled, honored, excited to be joining [Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton] next season ~ season 21 of @nbcthevoice!” the 27-year-old tweeted. “[Nick Jonas,] we will miss you.”
Though this is the first time Grande has ever been a coach on the competition series, this will not be her first time on The Voice soundstage. In 2016, she performed her hit song “Into You” on the show’s season finale.
Thus far, Legend has welcomed Grande, whom he’s collaborated with musically in the past, to The Voice family. He reposted her tweet saying, “So excited to welcome Ariana to our Voice family!!”
Ariana Grande wanted to join ‘The Voice’ because she’s obsessed with the show
Though her schedule has certainly slowed down due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, Grande did not join The Voice on a whim. In fact, she’s been a major fan of the series for quite some time. “Ariana is a huge fan of The Voice, and her management team has been negotiating to get her on the show for a while,” an insider told Page Six.
It looks like things have finally worked out, and now that the ink is dry, it a slew of the “west side” singer’s fans will be tuning into The Voice for the very first time to see her.
“I’ve never really seen the show and now I’m definitely tuning in. 🙌🏽,” one fan said on Instagram. Another added to the announcement saying, “I had to check to make sure it wasn’t April Fools 😂.” A third declared, “FINALLY A REASON TO WATCH THE VOICE.”
Nick Jonas could return to ‘The Voice’ in the future
Even though getting Grande as a new judge is thrilling, fans of The Voice were still devastated to watch Jonas go. However, he might not be gone for too long.
“She is replacing Nick Jonas, who is a [coach] on the current season, but he isn’t leaving for good,” an insider explained to Page Six. “Nick will remain on rotation with other stars that have appeared on the show. The chances are he will be back soon.”
For her part, Grande seems ready to work, “I can’t wait to go head-to-head with the incredible coaches, get to know these new artists and help to take their craft to the next level,” she shared on Instagram.
