‘The Voice’: Blake Shelton Jokes He Has 1 Concern About Ariana Grande Joining the Show
The Voice Season 20 is moving into its season finale on May 25, and many fans are waiting to see if one of Nick Jonas’ artists will win. It’s his second time as a judge, and two of his performers are finalists in the top nine.
As the show gets ready to select its winner, viewers are also preparing to welcome a new judge into the fold for season 21. Ariana Grande will get cozy in a red chair, and Blake Shelton joked that he has one worry about her upcoming stint.
Ariana Grande joining ‘The Voice’ in Season 21
21 seasons of The Voice already? In March, NBC shared that vocal powerhouse Ariana Grande is gearing up to take a spin in the judge’s chair for the next season.
Though Grande has a background working in television (thanks to Nickelodeon), this marks her first time working as a judge on a reality competition show. And fans are excited to see how she’ll put her talents to use as a coach.
Nick Jonas is heading out after coaching in season 18 and season 20, and Grande is taking his place. She’ll be sitting beside Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Blake Shelton.
Blake Shelton is worried about ‘stepping on’ Ariana Grande
Jonas, John Legend, and Blake Shelton appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about their show and Grande’s upcoming debut.
Clarkson asked Jonas — as the outgoing coach — what advice he would bestow upon his successor. After complimenting her talent, he said the only thing he would tell Grande is to not trust “any one of you,” meaning his fellow judges.
They all got a kick out of that, but then they turned on Shelton and implied that he has a menacing track record on The Voice. Fans know it’s all in good fun as the country crooner plays to win and has a good time doing it. The jokes rolled on, and Shelton himself expressed his one concern about Grande.
“I just hope I don’t step on her. Look at her! She’s so tiny on there,” he teased. Legend and Clarkson agreed that if the two singers are seated next to each other, their height comparison will make for good banter. But viewers will have to wait to tune in for the next installment.
‘The Voice’ to change formats with season 21
The Voice just celebrated its 10-year anniversary on NBC, a milestone recognized with a special episode on May 3. The series moved to live shows on May 10 and now things are coming down to the wire.
Someone will be chosen as the winner on May 25, and then viewers will have to wait for season 21 in the fall. That also kicks off a new format.
NBC plans to air The Voice only once per television season, switching things from its double whammy fall and spring premieres. According to Deadline, the show will stick to Tuesday nights and only produce one cycle.
The outlet also noted that there won’t be any springtime competition with American Idol anymore. Look out for Grande settling into her new digs with Shelton, Clarkson, and Legend later this year.
