The Voice contestants have one goal during the show’s blind auditions: to get at least one coach to turn their chair. A four-chair turn means a contestant has something unique. To move out of this part of the competition, singers have to pick a song that will be recognizable but not one that has been performed so much that viewers and coaches are sick of hearing it. Here are the top 7 songs that almost always guarantee The Voice chair turns.

The top ‘Voice’ chair-turning songs

ActionNetwork analyzed the top chair-turning tunes during The Voice Blind Auditions. The surprising list of songs includes standards, pop classics, and iconic rock tunes.

The number one song receiving the most chair-turns on The Voice is 2006’s “Gravity” by John Mayer. Thus far, “Gravity” has an astonishing 13 chair turns with a total of four performances.

Coming in second is “Angel of Montgomery” by John Prine. The 1971 song has 13 chair turns and was performed three times.

Tied for third is “All I Want” by Kodaline. This 2013 alt-rock tune was performed three times with a total of 10 chair turns.

It ranks alongside Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.” The 1962 song has 10 chair turns with four performances.

“Dream a Little Dream of Me” is also in the top seven. It’s a song standard first recorded in 1931 by Ozzie Nelson and his orchestra. This song is tied with Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 song “Dreams.” Both tunes rank with 10 chair turns and number three and four performances.

Finally, wrapping up the top seven chair-turners is Sam Smith’s 2013 smash, “Lay Me Down.” It’s achieved 10 chair turns and has five performances in total.

Other songs that ranked in the top 13 earning the most chair turns on The Voice include “A Song for You” by Leon Russell, ‘Best part” by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R., “Bless the Broken Road” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver, and “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars

A successful cover song on The Voice highlights the performer’s voice and creative interpretation while also staying true to the original song. These performances should be unique and not simply copy the original artist’s version of the tune.

Thus, they should also show off a performer’s identity, showing off their roots and their potential to land in a particular music lane. Additionally, these performances will help attract followers who like these songs and artists, solidifying the following necessary to keep The Voice contestants in the competition.
