‘The Walking Dead’: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reveals Special Guest Star for Season 11
Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been charming fans for years on the small screen as Denny Duquette, John Winchester, and more recently as Negan Smith in The Walking Dead.
He’s been about the zombie life since 2016 and soon, Morgan will be wrapping up his run on TWD. The popular TV series is due to end with an expanded 11th season, marking the end of an era and the start of other spinoffs.
AMC teased an exciting, action-packed final installment that will explore new territory for the characters and the zombies. And Morgan himself just added to the anticipation by revealing a sweet photo of their guest star for the last season.
‘The Walking Dead’ is currently filming season 11
The Walking Dead is slated to return to TV in August 2021 with eight fresh episodes. Altogether, there will be 24 added to the programming schedule that will run into 2022. During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Morgan shared that the cast and crew are currently in Georgia filming season 11.
Viewers are already learning more about Negan’s past and his love story with his wife Lucille. In a cool twist, Lucille is being portrayed by Morgan’s real-life wife, Hilarie Burton. While shooting “Here’s Negan,” the couple spent time away from their children.
But this time around, Morgan has his entire brood with him. He told Corden it’s been nice having the whole family on set, even with their busy three-year-old in tow.
In the comic book version of the story, Negan stood by his wife during her last days after she was diagnosed with cancer. She died around the time the zombies took over and turned into a walker herself.
Fans now see how Lucille’s death affected Negan and shaped his sad journey into villainhood. Much of that unfolded in season 10’s finale that aired on April 4. It’s truly been a family affair on TWD.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan shared photo of his son on ‘TWD’ too
Morgan told Corden about his son Gus appearing a guest star in season 11. The young boy is set to play a walker child, and his makeup is both jarring and convincing.
“The official announcement. Gus Morgan, my son — my 11-year-old son — is going to be the featured walker in episode 5,” Morgan said. “He’s so pumped it’s ridiculous.”
He explained how his son gets tested for COVID-19 and goes through the makeup routine for his role, but it wasn’t so easy for him a few years ago. “But last time we did any kind of zombie makeup on him, he looked at his reflection in the mirror and passed out,” Morgan recalled.
He recently shared a sweet photo of his son in costume.
‘The Walking Dead’ Season 11 drops summer 2021
Per The Hollywood Reporter, fans can tune in for the season 11 debut of TWD on AMC on August 22. Showrunner Angela Kang told the outlet it will be big.
“Coming off of the six additional episodes for season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we’re excited to kick off season 11 bigger than ever,” Kang said.
“The stakes will be high — we’ll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them.”
