A new original series is coming to Hallmark Channel. The network has greenlit The Way Home, which will follow three generations of women who discover they have an ability to travel through time.

‘The Way Home’ will premiere on Hallmark Channel in 2023

The Way Home is a “unique story about three generations of women struggling with secrets as they discover an ability to travel through time and potentially change their future,” according to a tweet from MarVista Entertainment.

The mother-daughter team of Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke will executive produce the series, Deadline reported. They’ve also worked together on the popular Canadian series Heartland. Production will begin this summer in Canada. The show will premiere sometime in 2023 on Hallmark Channel. No cast has been announced.

What is ‘The Way Home’ about?

The Way Home will focus on the strong and independent women of the Landry family: Kat, Alice, and Del.

Kat and her mother Del have been estranged for more than 20 years, ever since life-changing events fractured their family. They’re still not on speaking terms, and Kat’s daughter Alice, who is 15, has never met her grandmother. But when they find themselves under the same roof for the first time in decades, they make a discovery that puts them on the path to healing.

“I can’t wait to share the emotional story of the Landry women so beautifully and creatively imagined by Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke and that is sure to become appointment TV for our viewers,” Laurie Ferneau, senior VP development at Crown Media Family Networks, told Deadline.

“One of my passions is developing series and it’s beyond thrilling to spearhead the development of The Way Home and others for Crown Media,” Crown Media’s executive VP of programming Lisa Hamilton Daly said.

Hallmark recently canceled several shows, including ‘Chesapeake Shores’ and ‘Good Witch’

The news that Hallmark plans to add a fresh scripted series to its lineup comes not long after the network canceled several of its shows.

Good Witch came to an end in July 2021 after seven seasons on the air and seven original movies. And in March 2022, the network announced that the upcoming season of Chesapeake Shores would be the last for the show. New episode of that series will air in summer 2022. Hallmark has also said that it doesn’t plan to produce additional installments of Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, Matchmaker Mysteries, and several other mystery series.
