‘The Way Home’ Season 3 Gets a Premiere Date, But There’s a Big Twist
The Way Home is making a big move. Season 3 of the time-traveling Hallmark drama returns in early 2025. But the new episodes won’t debut on Hallmark Channel. Instead, they’ll stream first on Hallmark+.
‘The Way Home’ Season 3 premieres in January 2025 on Hallmark+
When Hallmark announced that When Calls the Heart Season 12 would premiere in January 2025, we assumed that meant we wouldn’t see new episodes of The Way Home until sometime in the spring at the earliest. But Hallmark upended our expectations when it revealed that the show – which stars Chyler Leigh as a woman who discovers that a pond on her family’s farm is a time portal – would premiere on Jan. 2, 2025, exclusively on Hallmark+. Variety was the first to report the news.
While The Way Home Season 3 will debut on Hallmark+, people who don’t have the streaming service aren’t completely out of luck. Season 3 will air on Hallmark Channel in the fall of 2025.
What is Hallmark+?
Hallmark+ (a rebranded version of Hallmark Movies Now) launched earlier in 2024 with a range of new, streaming-only movies and shows. Content exclusively available on the streaming service includes The Chicken Sisters, an eight-episode family drama starring Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick, the unscripted competition series Finding Mr. Christmas, and the Groomsmen trilogy of movies. Hallmark+ also has a library of older Hallmark Channel original shows and movies, including Chesapeake Shores and When Calls the Heart.
A Hallmark+ subscription is normally $7.99 per month. Through Dec. 2, you can get a Prime Video add-on subscription to Hallmark+ for $2.99 per month for two months.
What to expect from the next season of Hallmark’s ‘The Way Home’
The Way Home Season 2 ended just as Kat’s (Leigh) long-missing brother Jabob (Spencer Macpherson) was about to be reunited with his mom Del (Andie MacDowell). As far as we know, Del has no idea her son is still alive and has spent the past two decades trapped in the 18th century. The new episodes will pick up after that cliffhanger.
The show will also introduce a new timeline in season 3, with Kat and her teenage daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) traveling back to 1974, when a teenage Del (Julia Tomasone) and her husband Colton (Jordan Doww) first met. Alice will also meet a young Evelyn Goodwin (Devin Cecchetto), a character who has been mentioned several times on The Way Home, but whom we haven’t yet seen. Meanwhile, in the present Kat will have to navigate her evolving relationship with Elliot (Evan Williams).
‘The Way Home’ fans disappointed by move to Hallmark+
While the news that The Way Home will soon be back with more episodes is reason for fans to cheer, not everyone is thrilled with the show’s move to Hallmark+. On an Instagram post announcing the change, a number of people expressed frustration that they’d either have to sign up for another streaming service or wait months until the new episodes show up on Hallmark Channel (and risk seeing spoilers in the meantime).
“Wow!!! I love that series but not willing to pay for another streaming subscription,” one commented.
“Ugh! I was so excited for this to come back on. I couldn’t be more disappointed right now,” wrote another.
“I’ve watched since Season 1 episode 1 and it’s not like this is the [show’s] premiere,” a commenter pointed out. “This is the 3rd season. Trying to force fans into getting Hallmark + seems like it’s just a money grab. Hope you reconsider this!”
