The Weeknd Is Completely Reimagining His ‘After Hours’ 2022 Tour
The Weeknd has risen to become one of the biggest stars in the music industry over the past decade. The Canadian singer showed just how talented he is at the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show. And in 2022, he’s taking his talents on the road in his first tour since the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Weeknd is going on tour in 2022
With the release of his smash album After Hours in 2020 and his Super Bowl halftime performance in early 2021, The Weeknd became a performer that many people believed couldn’t be a large-scale superstar. Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic no longer crippling the live music industry, The Weeknd is going to tour in support of After Hours.
The tour, launching in 2022, will stop in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The Weeknd is a hard worker, and he doesn’t feel the need to rest up before the tour.
He told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2021 that he rarely takes vacations. “I don’t even know what winding down really means; I just love work, you know,” he said. “I love to work. I love my job. I love to create. And if I do take a vacation, it can’t be for too long because I feel like I’m missing out on everything that I could be doing.”
“So, yeah. I try my best, but no, I haven’t [taken a vacation] in a while,” he added. “I do staycations if that counts.”
The Weeknd is moving from arenas to stadiums
In October 2021, The Weeknd announced that his dates for the After Hours til Dawn tour will be postponed until summer 2022. The reason for the change is so that The Weeknd can sell out stadiums, rather than add multiple new dates for arena performances.
“The tour dates are moving and will commence in the summer of 2022,” he wrote on Instagram. “Due to constraints of arenas and the demand for more shows I want to do something bigger and special for you which requires stadiums.”
“Current tickets will be refunded automatically and all ticket holders will be given priority to buy tickets for the stadium shows when they go on sale,” he added. “New dates forthcoming.”
The Weeknd is 1 of music’s biggest stars today
In the lead-up to his earth-shattering Super Bowl performance, The Weeknd made headlines after he called out the Recording Academy for snubbing his After Hours album. Three of the album’s singles, “Heartless,” “Blinding Lights, and “Save Your Tears,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album has also been certified double Platinum with over 2 million copies sold.
In addition to After Hours, the After Hours til Dawn tour will be in support of his upcoming fifth studio album. The Weeknd has remained tight-lipped on the project, but it will likely be released in the lead-up to the tour kicking off next summer.
