The Weeknd’s Hair Got So Long That He Couldn’t See
The Weeknd’s name has been all over the internet since his performance at Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7. Reactions to his performance have been mixed, and thousands of memes were created after viewers watched the halftime show.
During the performance, The Weeknd was sporting his new look he adopted to promote his most recent album After Hours. The ‘Blinding Lights’ singer wore his signature red blazer, black gloves, and a shaggy afro on his head.
The Weeknd’s hair has gone through a serious transformation over the last several years. When he was promoting his Beauty Behind the Madness album, his hair was at its longest, hanging over his face and down his neck. After a while, it became extremely uncomfortable for him, with The Weeknd ending up unable to see.
This caused the Grammy-nominated singer to cut it all off, giving him his more recent look.
The Weeknd’s hair got so long it started to block his vision
The Weeknd opened up about his struggle with his hair during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music. He had apparently been considering cutting his hair long before the world saw him with the shorter cut he now wears.
“I was thinking about it for a bit, it just wasn’t—the vision wasn’t there anymore,” he said.
As his hair continued to grow, The Weeknd’s music became sadder as well.
“It was there, and then—just like, the music was getting sad,” he said.
He loved how it felt to have a haircut
Ready to switch things up, The Weeknd cut his hair prior to the release of his 2016 album Starboy.
“It was the greatest feeling of all time,” he said. “It was so good. I could sleep better, I felt lighter.”
The drastic change also improved the way The Weeknd felt while he was on performing on stage.
“When I perform, I perform better,” he added. “I feel better. It’s cool.”
The Weeknd likes being able to wear hats now
Another big benefit The Weeknd’s haircut was that he could wear hats once again.
“You don’t even realize how much of a pain in the a– it was until you cut it,” he said. “The best part about all of it is I get to wear f—ing hats again.”
He loves being able to go incognito while out in public, and wearing a hat makes that the easiest to do.
“Just wear a f—ing cap, walk into a restaurant, nobody knows it’s you,” he said. “It’s the greatest feeling.”
Taylor Swift once pet his hair at a Grammys afterparty
Even though The Weeknd was glad to get rid of his hair, many people were shocked to see him lose his iconic look. One of those people was likely Taylor Swift, who apparently couldn’t stop touching it during a Grammys afterparty a year before he cut it.
“Everyone was hammered,” he recalled in a past Rolling Stone interview. “Sam had just won, like, every Grammy, so he was having the time of his life… Everybody was having a great time, all these cool things were happening, and I was shaking, like — ‘F–k, I really want a drink.’”
The Weeknd personally felt that she might’ve been a little intoxicated and didn’t realize what she was doing.
“The whole time she was talking, she was kind of, like, petting my hair?” he added. “I think she was just drawn to it — she must have been a little gone off a few drinks. And of course, I’m not going to be like, ‘Hey, can you stop?’”
