‘The Witcher’: A Complete Storyline Breakdown of Season 1 From Beginning to End
The Witcher Season 1 confusing fans over its complex timelines that take place at different points in time. The Netflix series utilized the timelines to tell the stories of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra). The three characters’ lives intertwine by fate or maybe destiny.
The story begins with the White Wolf witcher, Geralt of Rivia
It’s no surprise audience’s first introduction to Geralt is while he is fighting off a Kikimora. After defeating the beast, he heads to the local village. Here he meets Renfri for the first time.
Geralt later finds the local mage, who introduces himself as Master Stregobor. He wants Geralt to kill Renfri because she was born under the Curse of the Black Sun, and she wants vengeance against him.
While fans watch Geralt’s timeline, they are introduced to Ciri and Queen Calanthe of Cintra. Later on, Calanthe is in battle with Nilfgaard, retreats to the palace, and knows they will lose.
As Cintra is infiltrated, she demands Ciri be taken away from the palace to find Geralt, her destiny. Geralt starts to sympathize with Renfri but, in the end, is forced to kill her, and he is tagged as the Butcher of Blaviken. As Ciri escapes to the forest, she uses unforeseen power to escape Nilfgaard and causes a monolith to break.
Yennefer of Vengerberg trains to become a mage in ‘The Witcher’ Season 1
Yennefer’s story and timelines are introduced. Her father sold her to Tissaia when she used magic to open a portal. Yennefer is taken to Aretuza to undergo training to become a mage. Meanwhile, Ciri ventures into the forest and meets a young boy who helps her, and they find survivors of Cintra. In Geralt’s timeline, he meets Jaskier, the bard.
At Aretuza, Yennefer fails at almost every task given to her. She finds some compassion in Istredd, and they develop a romantic relationship. Geralt and Jaskier are taken prisoners by elves while on a mission but escape. Meanwhile, the camp of refugees is attacked, and Ciri flees again with Dara.
Geralt and Jaskier go on a new mission to stop a beast plaguing King Foltest’s kingdom. Geralt also meets Triss, Foltest’s mage. The mission proves Geralt is up against a Striga.
Yennefer’s true transformation occurs. She learns the council betrayed her and will send her to Nilfgaard. Refusing to attend the festivities, she forces the enchanter to make her beautiful. In return, she loses the ability to procreate. Yennefer attends the ball and plants herself with Aedirn.
Geralt takes the Law of Surprise as a reward from Cintra in ‘The Witcher’
In Ciri’s timeline, she is called to Brokilin Forest and meets the Dryads. Geralt accompanies Jaskier to Cintra for Pavetta’s banquet. The events take a turn when a porcupine knight named Duny claims Pavetta due to the Law of Surprise and that they are in love. Calanthe opposes, and Pavetta uses unforeseen magic to destroy the throne room and protect Duny.
Calanthe accepts the marriage, and Duny’s curse is lifted. As a reward, Geralt joking claims the Law of Suprise. But Pavetta throws up, proving she is pregnant. Fast foward, and Nilgaard uses a shapeshifter to impersonate Mousesack to capture Ciri.
Geralt remeets Jaskier in another town while he fishes to find a djinn. During an argument, the djinn breaks, and Geralt accidentally wishes to make Jaskier stay quiet. The wish’s side effects are fatal, and Geralt needs a mage to save him.
He soon meets Yennefer, who agrees to help. She plans to use it to become its vessel and its powers to become fertile again. Jaskier is saved, but Geralt realizes Yennefer will die because he is the djinn’s real master. To save her, Geralt mumbles a wish from the djinn.
Geralt and Yennefer hunt a dragon in ‘The Witcher’ Season 1
In The Witcher Season 1, Geralt is hired to help find an almost extinct dragon. On their venture, he meets Yennefer and learns she wants to become a mother. They find the dragon and together to fight off the other hunters. Afterward, Yennefer believes Geralt’s wish tied their fates.
Meanwhile, the fake Mousesack finds Ciri and Dara. The shapeshifter realizes what Ciri might be and betrays Cahir. After some time, Geralt’s timeline takes him back to Cintra to claim Ciri, believing she is in danger.
His timelines start to intersect with the beginning of Ciri’s. While in custody, Cintra is taken over, and Geralt misses Ciri by seconds. Yennefer, Tissaia, and other mages band together to go against the council to stop Nilfgaard at Sodden Hill.
Yennefer uses fire magic to save everyone and disappears. In Geralt’s story, he is wounded by a monster and fever dreams his mother. A local man aids him and takes him to his home. When Geralt recuperates, he finds Ciri in the forest.
