‘The Witcher’ Season 2: Fans Theorize Tissaia Is an Imposter During One Pivotal Scene
In The Witcher Season 2, Tissaia becomes an important mage in the overall storyline. But some fans believe the character is not who she really is during one scene in the season finale. In the world of The Witcher, all types of fantasy creatures exist, even shapeshifters. Were there certain clues and markers that had fans believe Tissaia is someone else during the meeting with the North Kings and Queens?
[Spoiler alert: This article contains mild spoilers for The Witcher Season 2.]
The season finale of ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 begins new problems for the main characters
Many key events occurred in the season finale between Ciri being possessed by Voleth Meir, the Wild Hunt, and the grand reveal of Emhyr’s identity. But Fangirlish theorizes another key detail that occurred in the finale of The Witcher Season2 with Tissaia. At the near end of episode 8, Tissaia gathers the Kings and Queens of the North.
She informs then the Lion Cub of Cintra is alive and with Geralt of Rivia. Word has spread of Ciri and her powers. In an earlier episode, Triss confided in Tissaia about what she saw when traveling into Ciri’s subconscious. Tissaia and the other mages know Ciri is a Child of Elder Blood.
At the meeting, the mages, Kings, and Queens theorize Dijkstra is looking for Ciri to marry her off to his King to have a rightful claim to the throne of Cintra. They agree to put a bounty on Ciri’s head to stop his possible plan. Tissaia agrees and adds the bounty applies to anyone who protects Ciri.
Fans theorize Tissaia in the season finale is a shapeshifter
The end of The Witcher Season 2 might have hinted that Tissaia is not the same woman fans have grown fond of. Despite her cold demeanor in the first season, Tissaia has shown a warm and caring heart in The Witcher Season 2.
Fangirlish theorizes that Tissaia at the meeting is not the real Tissaia. Throughout both seasons of the series, Tissaia has always worn blue or different shades of the color. At the meeting, she is wearing a deep blood red. Another shot of the scene shows she is wearing a blue skirt underneath.
The blood-red color is the opposite of what fans know about Tissaia. “Also, think about the way that she was lounging in that chair. It’s completely at odds with the presence that Tissaia exudes the entirety of seasons 1 and 2. Instead of being that calm and collected, she was cocky and sure of herself, completely at odds with what we know about her,” said Fangirlish.
Fans are aware shapeshifters exist. In The Witcher, a shapeshifter posed as Mousesack to trap Ciri. Tissaia’s comment saying the bounty applies to anyone close to Ciri makes no sense for the character.
Tissaia sees Yennefer as a daughter and knows she is aiding Ciri to safety. Geralt is also with Ciri and Yennefer, of which Tissaia is aware. She would not fathom hurting Geralt, Yennefer, or Ciri.
Who are the possible suspects posing as Tissaia in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2?
There are only a few possibilities as to who is behind the fake Tissaia. One theory could be that another main character hired a shapeshifter to pose as Tissaia to gain the upper hand. But it still leaves one to wonder who the mastermind is?
According to Fangirlish, the likely culprit is Triss. She was the one who saw Lara Dorren and the gravity of Ciri’s destiny. Triss ultimately comes to fear Ciri and the darkness she could bring. It is possible she used magic to disguise herself as Tissaia to get rid of Ciri.
There is also the small detail of Triss’s feelings for Geralt. In The Witcher Season 2 at Kaer Morhen, Triss tries to persuade Geralt to spend the night with her. He refuses. The fake Tissaia’s comment of the bounty applying to everyone close to Ciri could be Triss’s way of gettign rid of Yennefer.
But the theory can be debunked in the first episode. After the Battle of Sodden Hill, Tissaia is wearing dark purple and maroon outfit. She wears the same outfit when she tries to get information from Cahir.
