‘The Witcher’ Season 2 Got More Views Than ‘Stranger Things’ Second Season
The Witcher is one of the most watched shows on Netflix. And in a recent viewership update, the streamer revealed that The Witcher Season 2 outperformed the second season of Strangers Things.

The Witcher has a loyal fan following. But the show’s second season didn’t open with the hype and fanfare Strangers Things received in Season 2.
So, when Netflix released a list of its most-watched shows, it was surprising to see The Witcher Season 2 rank above Stranger Things’ second season.
The latest installment of the Henry Cavill series was viewed for 462.5 million hours in its first 28 days on the streamer. While season 2 of Stranger Things clocked in at 427.4 million in its first month.
But ‘The Witcher’ Season 1 did better than the second
Season 2 of The Witcher, which follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) and his child surprise Ciri’s (Freya Allen) dangerous new adventure, did very well on Netflix. But according to the streamer’s list, it didn’t do as well as Season 1.
The debut season of The Witcher landed 541 million hours of watch time. And it ranks number 3 on Netflix’s most-watched shows of all time. The top spot is held by Bridgerton, which earned nearly 625.5 hours of viewership. And with 582.1 hours, Stranger Things Season 3 nabs the second spot.
Three other shows dominate Netflix’s top 10 chart
The Witcher and Stranger Things aren’t the only two shows to make it to Netflix’s top 10. Along with Bridgerton, there are three other shows that make the cut.
Seasons 1 and 2 of the drama, 13 Reasons Why rank numbers 5 and 4 respectively on Netflix’s most-watched series of all-time list. The second and third seasons of Penn Badgely’s You hold spots 7 and 9. And the 2021 limited series, The Maid, which stars Margaret Qualley, comes in at number 6.
‘The Witcher’ will be back for Season 3
The first two seasons of The Witcher have been highly successful for Netflix. And that’s probably why the streamer is bringing the series back for season 3. In a December 2021 interview with TechRadar, showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed that the new installment will head into production soon.
“We’re almost done with the scripting phase, and it’s amazing,” she said. “I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favorite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt.”
“I feel like seasons 1 and 2 have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen,” Hissrich added. “But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.”
The Witcher Season 3 does not yet have a release date. But when it does premiere, it will likely join the ranks of the first two seasons and make it to Netflix’s top 10.
