If there is one thing fans enjoy more than the storyline of Netflix’s The Witcher, it’s the catchy songs. Jaskier, the bard, is to thank for the series’s many popular tunes and theme songs like “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher.” In The Witcher Season 2, Jaskier sings a more wounded tune but teases another song in episode four. Jaskier’s “The Golden One” finally gets a full version for fans to listen to.

Jaskier’s song is debated by a dock worker in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2

In the second season of the hit show, Jaskier is not the cheery bard he once was. After he and Geralt split ways in the first season, he is bitter toward the witcher. Fans often recall his song, “Burn Butcher Burn,” where he advertently makes snide remarks about a butcher, the infamous witcher.

Jaskier still spends his days turning adventure stories into songs and is well-loved by local patrons. Some can say Jaskier has become a bit of a celebrity on The Witcher Season 2. In episode four, fans learn Jaskier is also the “Sandpiper.” He helps elves and people in danger seek safe passage with the help of a benefactor. When he remeets Yennefer and Cahir, he agrees to help them.

To do so, Jaskier must go to the docks to a boarding ship that secretly transports elves. When the dock worker stops him to ask for papers, Jaskier starts singing a bit of “The Golden One.” He uses it to make the dock worker realize who he is and let him go. It works until the dock worker criticizes the song.

Jaskier does not welcome the comments, and he starts a fight with the worker. The problem is Jaskier’s wounded ego starts to derail their plan to sneak onboard the ship.

‘The Golden One’ is a top contendor

Netflix finally released a full version of Jaskier’s song, complete with lyrics and scenes of the story it’s based off. “The Golden One” tells the story of when Geralt and Jaskier are contracted to help find a rare dragon in The Witcher Episode 6. This is also when Geralt and Jaskier part ways.

The video shows the scenes associated with the lyrics. Jaskier talks about the two female Zerriaknian warriors that accompanied Borch Three Jackdaws in the song. The song explains how the adventure proved everyone wrong. Everyone involved in the hunt was after riches instead of helping save a dying out race and helping preserve its kin.

The biggest takeaway from the song is how Jaskier describes what happens between Yennefer and Geralt. The song lyrics explain their passionate kiss and Geralt’s love for the sorceress. But it also laments how the golden dragon, aka Borch, tells them the grim reality that their love might not be genuine.

Jaskier often sings, “We’re just fools.” A lyric that describes Yennefer and Geralt, how Jaskier thought Geralt was a friend, and more. Comically, in The Witcher Season 2, the dock worker thinks Jaskier’s song is a bit weak and does not believe the whimsical nature of the story.

Audiences are longtime fans of Jaskier’s music abilities

One of the more famous covers was done by Dan Vasc on Youtube. Netflix also translated the song into different languages for worldwide audiences.
