Fans finally got an update on The Witcher Season 3. Netflix officially announced the third season is currently in production. They also shared an on-set photo of Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Frey Allan. But fans have grown concerned as the synopsis and photo do not reveal any details about the beloved bard, Jaskier, played by Joey Batey. Thankfully, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teased fans months ago about Jaskier in The Witcher Season 3.

Where did ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 leave off Jaskier and the main characters

In the first season, Jaskier and Geralt go through a rough breakup after their adventure to find the golden dragon. This is the episode where Yennefer learns her feelings for Geralt might be the work of the Djinn and not genuine. Distraught over Yennefer, Geralt lashes out at Jaskier, forcing him to leave.

A long time passes until they remeet in The Witcher Season 2. Fans learn Jaskier continues singing songs about adventures but has gone sour over Geralt. Jaskier has also become the Sandpiper, a hidden figure who sneaks elves to Cintra. When Jaskier is arrested, Geralt is the one that comes to his rescue.

He follows Geralt on his journey to find Ciri after Yennefer disappears with her from the temple school. When they find Yennefer, Geralt entrusts Ciri’s safety to Jaskier as he takes her back to Kaer Morhen. The last fans saw of Jaskier was in the grand battle in the finale. Do not worry. He is alive.

‘The Witcher’ Season 3 showrunner teased early on not to worry about Jaskier

With concrete news from Netflix about The Witcher Season 3, fans quickly noticed the absence of Jaskier. According to the plot summary posted by the official series Twitter account, the season will refocus on Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri as a family. They travel to Aretuza to learn more about Ciri’s immense powers and lineage.

At Aretuza, they find themselves in the middle of political turmoil. Jaskier is nowhere to be mentioned in the summary or on-set photo. Hissrich teased that Jaskier will have a bigger role in The Witcher Season 3.

Days after the premiere of the second season on Netflix, Hissrich took to Twitter to answer fan questions. A fan named MegaDozo asked if the showrunner can give a hint about Jaskier for the third season.

Hissrich simply answered, “He’s in it from the beginning.” The short answer was enough to appease fans of their worries. On Dec.30, Hissrich answered a fan’s inquiry on Twitter about how Jaskier will fit into the family dynamic for The Witcher Season 3.

“Yes! I responded a bit to this above, but I think Jask is integral to this family — and that S2 gave him individual bonding moments with all of the characters, so we can really delve deeper into them in S3,” explained Hissrich.

While Netflix has yet to officially reveal every character and cast member for The Witcher Season 3, Batey has previously revealed he is more than happy to partake in all seasons. Before the premiere of the second season, Batey told NewsWeek he has “great faith in Lauren and her vision for the show.”

“I have a great friendship with her. She’s a wonderful, wonderful leader, and captain of this ship. So yeah, without hesitation I would follow her to the ends of the Earth,” said Batey.

Between Hissrich’s teaser of Jaskier’s involvement in season three and Batey’s response, it is safe to say he is in for the long run. There is still a lot to explore with Jaskier’s character.

Fans will have to wait and see how Jaskier will deal with his secret benefactor. The series revealed the benefactor is Sigismund Dijkstra who is on the hunt looking for Ciri and may use Jaskier to do it. Seeing as The Witcher has shifted gears to focus on family, fans will get to see how Jaskier warms up to Ciri, now having met her officially.
