In the world of The Witcher, Yennefer is a powerful sorceress. She is also Geralt of Rivia’s love and a sort of mother figure to Ciri. The upcoming Netflix show will follow their adventures, both separately and together.
The Witcher books follow Geralt of Rivia as he travels throughout the Continent searching for work. In his journeys, he meets Yennefer and Ciri and both women become important to him. Yennefer is a bit of a mystery, though, and they have a somewhat turbulent relationship.

Who is Yennefer in ‘The Witcher’ books?
Yennefer of Vengerberg is a powerful sorceress. She was born in 1173 to two unnamed parents. She advised King Demavend of Aedirn, although she was not an official royal advisor.
Yennefer was the youngest member of the Supreme Council of Sorcerers within the Brotherhood of Sorcerers. She is also sterile, like most sorceresses. She secretly tried to restore her fertility. Yet she gave her motherly love to Ciri.
Yennefer taught Ciri about magic while in Ellander at the Temple of Melitele. She also always wore black and white. She moved with a natural grace. And she seemed to be about 20 years old.
How old is Yennefer really?
According to Screen Rant, she’s really in her 90s. That’s right. Yennefer of Vengerberg is really 90-something years old. So how does she look so young?
Well, there are perks to being a sorceress. One of which is that you can make yourself look younger using magic. Yennefer also uses her magic to get rid of her hunchback, which she was born with. Geralt realizes this eventually but it does not decrease his love for her.
Yennefer and Geralt are each other’s true loves. Their love for each other never stops, though they may go through rough patches. They truly care for each other and need each other, though neither one is likely to admit it.
What is Yennefer going to be like in Netflix’s version of ‘The Witcher’?
According to Anya Chalotra, who will be portraying Yennefer in the show, fans will get to see Yennefer from when she’s “14 years old to when she’s 77.” Therefore her backstory will be explored in the show. According to the actress, “within that [time], there’s that huge turning point for her when she discovers her powers and the purpose that that gives her.” Sounds exciting!
Chalotra goes on to say that fans will see “the journey of self-discovery she goes on from then on.” Sounds like the show will really delve into Yennefer’s character and many fans of The Witcher books are likely excited. Yennefer is also, according to Chalotra, “the ultimate survivor.” She seems to be a bit of a fighter, which could definitely make for an interesting character.
Chalotra adds that Yennefer is “stubborn. She won’t take no for an answer. She is in a constant battle with herself. She’s also witty and brave.”
All of these characteristics, including Yennefer’s actual age, seem to create an intriguing character. One that fans will enjoy getting to know in The Witcher show.
