In 1997, Grimes joined The Young and the Restless in the role of Cassie. Cassie is introduced as the daughter of Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), who was given up for adoption as an infant. Viewers fell in love with Cassie, and at 10 years old, she won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress.

“Honestly, my mind was blank, and all I could say was, ‘Oh, my God,’ over and over again. I was just so bowled over by the presentation and the fact that it was actually happening, I couldn’t think of anything else to say! It was so deeply touching,” she explained.
