‘The Young and the Restless’ Fans Love Seeing Young Neil and Dru Again
In 1973, season one of The Young and the Restless premiered. The CBS network soap opera became an instant hit. Genoa City, Wisconsin is the fictional home that the premise of the show revolves around. Over the years, the characters and the cast have evolved and changed. After all, this past year the series began airing its 47th season. Neil Winters and Drucilla Barber have been two of the many iconic characters that the show has created. Who are Neil Winter and Drucilla Barber on The Young and the Restless?
Neil Winters was introduced on The Young and the Restless all the way back in 1991. His character was played by Kristoff St. John. Throughout the seasons, Neil found himself intertwined with Drucilla Barber. Victoria Rowell is the talented actress who took on the role of Dru. Dru’s background in dancing eventually led her to pursue a career in modeling. Though she is definitely career-driven, much of her storyline had to do with her rollercoaster love life.
St. John’s character formed an instant connection with Drucilla Barber. In no time, the two got romantically involved with one another. Eventually, Neil and Dru happily married. However, things started to go downhill from there.
Neil’s brother, Malcolm, formed a close relationship with Dru. One night when Dru wasn’t feeling well and under the influence of a lot of medication, she made the mistake of sleeping with Malcolm. Dru claimed she thought it was Neil, but, regardless, Dru and Malcolm decided to keep the slip-up a secret. Things got even stickier when Dru became pregnant and the father of the baby was unclear. When Dru gave birth to Lily, Neil had no reason to believe he was not the father of their child.
On top of all of this, Dru and Neil seemed unhappy in their marriage. Dru wanted to return to work while her husband continuously expressed his wishes for her to stay home with Lily. Unfortunately, the deceit and lies were eventually revealed. Dru moved away with Lily to focus on modeling, and Neil struggled to start over, but what happened to the beloved pair?
What happened to Dru and Neil on The Young and the Restless?
Unfortunately, both Dru and Neil were met with unfortunate demises on The Young and the Restless. Dru’s came first. In 2007 Dru dramatically died while she was in a physical fight with Phyllis. Dru fell off a cliff during the fight and didn’t survive to tell the tale.
The Young and the Restless fans can assume Neil’s sudden and unexpected end on the show was a direct result of the actor’s tragic and abrupt death in real life. On February 3, 2019, St. John was found dead in his home, and shortly after, Neil’s storyline came to an end when he had a stroke in his sleep on The Young and the Restless.
Why have so many fans of The Young and the Restless been talking about Dru and Neil again?
Many television shows have been forced to pause production due to the ongoing global pandemic. However, that doesn’t mean fans still can’t enjoy their favorite shows. Though there haven’t been any new episodes, viewers have been enjoying reruns and old episodes. On May 18th CBS played back an episode that contained an explosive amount of flashback content of the popular couple. It became clear on social media that people were loving it. One fan wrote, “I looove seeing a young Dru and Neil. So cute.” The feels seemed to be common. Another viewer tweeted, “Neil and Dru so cute and adorable.” Hopefully, fans can continue to enjoy some of these old episodes and reruns.
