‘The Young and the Restless’: Fans Are Sick of Sally Being the Villain
The Young and the Restless is a TV show that has introduced many iconic characters over the years. From dynamic power couples to strong single mothers, The Young and the Restless has earned acclaim for some of its most popular characters.
In 2017, a character named Sally Spectra was introduced to fans of the daytime soap opera world, and it didn’t take long for the ambitious, stunning Sally to make a splash. These days, however, fans have some issues with Sally – specifically, the way that showrunners seem to be trying to make Sally seem like the show’s latest villain.
Fans think that ‘The Young and the Restless’ is trying to make Sally seem like the ‘villain’
Sally Spectra debuted on the show as a woman determined to make a difference in the world of fashion. Named after her great aunt, Sally has a quirky style all her own and a sassy, plucky personality.
Her character was first introduced on Y&R’s sister show, The Bold and the Beautiful, in 2017, with Sally moving to The Young and the Restless in late 2020. However, it didn’t take long for Sally to end up in trouble, making a mortal enemy of Phyllis Summers and failing to establish a healthy romance.
For fans, Sally Spectra’s recent meddling with Jack and Phyllis, including obviously eavesdropping on a private conversation, is proof positive that showrunners are setting up Sally as the next villain. These fans have taken to Twitter to slam the decision, saying they’d rather see Sally with a storyline surrounding her career, not being petty. Other fans noted that the actor behind Sally, Courtney Hope, is too talented to just be a villain in the world of The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.
Sally Spectra was once a determined, driven character
Fans of The Young and the Restless aren’t the only ones who have an issue with the way Sally Spectra’s character has been portrayed in recent months. Soap Hub noted in a report that Sally had seemed poised to take over Genoa City, becoming a major power player when she showed up on The Young and the Restless late last year – in spite of the fact that she arrived in the city in exile, after faking an illness in order to capture Wyatt’s attention.
However, the report notes that once Sally and Phyllis started their feud, which coincided with Sally’s entanglement with Jack, her character quickly started going downhill.
Over the past few months, Sally has faced prison time due to fraudulent design theft and has bounced from dysfunctional romance to dysfunctional romance. Through it all, fans have been vocal about their issues with Sally’s character, with many of them taking to social media to complain about the way that showrunners have seemingly reduced a strong woman to the worst dramatic situations.
What’s next for Sally Spectra?
Fans who are hoping for Sally Spectra to take back her crown as a powerful woman might have some hope. Recent episodes of The Young and the Restless have featured Sally playing mind games with Adam.
After Sally is given a big new opportunity with Newman Media, she starts to toy with his feelings, leading many viewers to believe that she’s deliberately being very calculated in order to secure the position with the company that she really wants. According to Soap Dirt, Sally’s plan seems to be working for now- which could create a brand-new path for a complicated character.
