The Young and the Restless‘ Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) is a hot topic of discussion on soap opera message boards. The billionaire has gone from hero to bad guy with the custody battle over Dominic Chancellor (Rainn and River Ware). With Dominic’s illness, fans believe a plot twist would result in a paternity switch. Yet, the writers seem to be going in the opposite direction.

‘The Young and the Restless’ Devon Hamilton is a compatiable donor for Dominic Chancellor

Devon, Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway), and Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) face every parent’s worst nightmare on The Young and the Restless. Dominic is sick, and after doctors perform a series of tests, they diagnose him with a rare blood disorder. The only way to save Dominic’s life is a bone marrow transplant.

Abby and Devon immediately got tested to see if they were a match. Fans speculated that this would lead to Devon finding out he’s not Dominic’s biological father. However, on the Feb. 15 episode, doctors revealed that Devon is a 100% match for a bone marrow donor.

Fans are convinced a paternity switch is still happening

Devon being a compatible donor seems to indicate that he’s Dominic’s biological father. However, The Young and the Restless fans pointed out one flaw with that theory. Earlier, Abby had a discussion with Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) and Dr. Austin. The two explained that it’s rare for parents to be a donor since they’re a 50% match.

The doctor’s information and the news of Devon’s compatibility have sparked a debate on a Reddit thread. “I figured the 100% match meant Devon is the father, but now I think it means he is less likely to be the father,” wrote one fan. “I just remembered, didn’t Dr. Austin say that a parent could be 50%, but a sibling or a stranger could be 100%? So it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Devon is the stranger match, not the dad match,” another commenter chimed in.

What’s next in the storyline?

Dominic’s storyline has taken so many twists and turns it’s confusing. The Young and the Restless fans are holding out hope Devon won’t be Dominic’s father. Many suspect Abby’s ex-husband Dr. Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan), is the boy’s biological father, and he’ll return soon to shake things up.

However, given the current writing with the show, they may not go in this direction. Odds are they’ll still have Devon as the father and will sue for full custody after saving Dominic’s life. If Abby’s this upset now, her world will be shattered when Devon decides to take Dominic away from her.

Whether Devon is or isn’t the father, the main priority is Dominic’s health.
