‘The Young and the Restless’: Fans Think Victoria’s Hair Is Out of Control
The Young and the Restless hit the airwaves close to five decades ago. Back then, the showrunners sought to solely tell the stories of the elusive Newman family and the scandals that are akin to every wealthy soap opera family.
Fast forward to the 21st Century, and the show has undergone a major revamp as the producers now care plenty about the show’s wardrobe and makeup department. In recent years, fans have been loving some of the characters’ styles and outfits. However, it seems viewers aren’t extending the same courtesy to Victoria Newman as fans think her hair is out of control.
‘The Young and the Restless’ is sister to ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’
Longtime fans of Y&R have not always been enthusiastic about the characters when it came to their wardrobe. The show is set in Wisconsin, which isn’t exactly a fashion hub. However, the show borrowed from its sister show, The Bold and the Beautiful, set in Los Angeles, and part of its central storyline involves a fashion and design company.
B&B debuted on CBS in 1987, a decade after Y&R. Although B&B centers around the fashion industry and has proven to fans that it can throw together an elegant outfit or two, fans haven’t in the past agreed with some of their fashion choices.
While fans are much too aware that the daytime soap isn’t grounded in reality, fans expect that the show would at least try to make the fashion aspect somewhat believable, considering it is part of their major storyline.
Fans felt frustrated when they learned that most of the outfits the characters wear on the show aren’t haute couture but are off the rack, no-label wardrobe choices. Despite all the backlash B&B has received from fans regarding their costumes, the show has won over the TV industry.
B&B won four Daytime Emmy awards in 2020, with one of the categories being Outstanding Costume Design for a Drama or Digital Drama Series.
Fans hate Victoria’s hair
Victoria has been a fan favorite on The Young and the Restless for a long time, and it’s easy to see why. She is Victor Newman‘s daughter who has to work twice as hard to earn her father’s affection and faith. Fans root for her to be named the family company’s head given the hard work she puts in and her dedication to the company.
Given her position and title as a businesswoman, you’d expect she would not only dress the part, that she would also look it, hair and makeup and all. However, this isn’t the case. Victoria has always managed to look composed and ready at all times but fans aren’t loving her hair in recent episodes.
One fan on Twitter brought attention to the fact that Victoria’s hair usually looks messy and not in a styled way. Fans on Twitter think it looks like Victoria doesn’t brush her hair and that the messy look doesn’t work for her.
Fans’ frustrations are understandable, considering the actor who plays Victoria, Amelia Heinle, has many photos on her social media accounts where she looks put together, and her hair looks smooth. This illustrates the oddity of her character not having the same hairstyle given her occupation on the show.
Fans love Summer’s style
Despite receiving flak for its wardrobe or lack thereof, some viewers agree that Y&R has upped its styling and wardrobe game in recent times. The love has especially fallen on Summer, who fans can’t help but gush over her latest wardrobe choices. Fans think Summer’s clean-cut, classic style suits the industry she’s in and looks great, from clothing to hair and makeup.
Hopefully, the hair and makeup team will take notes and do something different with Victoria’s hair.
