‘The Young and the Restless’: Michelle Stafford Reveals How She Really Feels About ‘Shick’ Fans
Soap fans are known to defend their favorites under any circumstances. For years, The Young and the Restless fans have either identified as Shick (Sharon Collins and Nick Newman) fans or Phick (Phyllis Summers and Nick) fans. Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis was recently asked how she felt about the group that prefers Shick over Phick.
‘Shick’ and ‘Phick’ are two of the show’s most popular supercouples in its history
Joshua Morrow (Nick), Stafford, and Sharon Case (Sharon) are three of the longest-tenured actors that are on The Young and the Restless right now. Morrow has portrayed Nick since he was rapidly-aged to a teen/young adult. Nick has had two great loves in his life: Sharon and Phyllis. Nick and Sharon were one of the longest-lasting soap couples in history, being together over ten years nonstop from 1995 to 2007. This is an anomaly in soaps as most couples don’t last together this long, and if they do, they are in it for a long haul. Nick and Sharon have three children, Cassie (who Nick adopted), Noah, and Faith.
Nick cheated on Sharon with Phyllis in one of the most iconic storylines in the show’s history, resulting one of the most legendary love triangles in all of soaps. Nick was with Phyllis from 2007 to 2010 and then again from 2012 to 2013. Now, they are back together. The couple has one child together, Summer.
Will Nick be drawn to Sharon soon?
Because of what Sharon is going through on the show right now, many people think that “Phick” may be no longer and that “Shick” could be back in contention. Morrow and Stafford were asked about this in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest. Morrow seems to think that Nick is a fan of Rey and Sharon and Stafford even hopes that Phyllis and Sharon may even be able to bond during this time.
He and Stafford also went through the history of Nick and Phyllis and if they were initially afraid of going back to Phick because of the “Shick” fans. The actor said that he felt the fury of “Shick” fans before Nick and Phyllis even got together . “The “Shick” fans are a very, very feisty bunch,” said Morrow. “Like, you’ve gotta be very careful with them. I kind of saw it unfolding but Nick and Phyllis never even crossed paths…It was such a hot story. I mean, honestly, that’s when we really told hot triangles. It’s honestly my favorite storyline ever, when Nick and Phyllis starting hooking up and the fallout with Sharon. It was a great, well-written, awesomely played triangle.”
Stafford was also asked if she was afraid of “ruffling the feathers” of Shick fans. For her, it’s all a part of having very passionate audiences that are watching the soap operas.
“I love fan bases, I think they’re important,” she explained. “Listen, soap fans, as you know, are the best fans anywhere, so I think if people are passionate about it, even passionately hate something, I think that’s a good thing. I think being complacent is the enemy, so even if they’re not a fan of me, and they’re a passionate fan of the show and not wanting Phyllis with Nick, it’s something.”
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
