‘The Young and the Restless’: Sally Spectra Is in Genoa City and Courtney Hope Gives All of the Details About What’s in Store
After weeks of waiting, Sally Spectra is arriving in Genoa City this week as the character has moved to The Young and the Restless from The Bold and the Beautiful. In a recent interview, the character’s portrayer, Courtney Hope, spoke all about it.
Sally Spectra has hopped from ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ to ‘The Young and the Restless’
Hope arrived on the scene at The Bold and the Beautiful as a primary cast member in 2017 as Sally, the granddaughter of the original Sally Spectra, who was an iconic character from the show. The original Sally was portrayed by Darlene Conley. Sally II, her namesake, was introduced on the show to be the centerpiece of a new era of Spectras.
The actor announced she was leaving the show in August, but soon after, announced that she would be joining The Bold and the Beautiful’s sister soap, The Young and the Restless.
The announcement of Hope joining The Young and the Restless immediately had fans wondering if she would play Sally again. It wouldn’t be a surprise, given that several characters from each show have been main cast members on both of them, including Amber Moore and Ashley Abbott. Eventually, it was announced that Hope would be playing Sally.
Courtney Hope previews Sally’s where Sally could be headed
Hope was asked about how great it will be to see Sally crossing paths with Lauren Fenmore, who was friends with her great aunt. The connection between Sally and Lauren seems to be one of the first things that the show wants to cover, as a meeting between the two was featured in the first promo featuring Sally.
“Lauren definitely has a history with Sally’s great aunt,” Hope said in an interview with TV Insider. “Sally gravitates towards that connection. Her great aunt is having a great time on a beach somewhere, but she definitely still has connections. From my point of view … it makes sense to touch down in a place where there’s someone familiar as opposed to going to completely new territory.”
The actor also stated that she was allowed input for Sally’s story and what she did with the character over at The Bold and the Beautiful. She met with The Young and the Restless’ head writer and co-executive producer, Josh Griffith who she says was “open” to hearing about Sally’s past.
“It was definitely a collaborative meeting,” he explained. “They want to make sure the history is accurate and to make sure what has already happened is brought into the script when it’s necessary to make sure that there is consistency. I definitely want to honor where they take Sally. They’re different writers. Genoa City is different [from L.A.]. Josh said if there’s anything that’s important to you, please let us know. All in all, I’m very impressed with where they’re taking Sally.”
Though Sally is just arriving in town now, viewers will surely be able to tell that she is set to leave her mark on Genoa City.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
