‘The Young and the Restless’: Sharon Case Opens up About Filming Grieving Scenes
The Young and the Restless actor Sharon Case is one of the show’s leading ladies. For the past 27 years, viewers have watched Case put on award-winning performances as Sharon Newman. Her recent performances with Sharon grieving Rey Rosales’ (Jordi Vilasuso) death brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
Sharon Case wanted Sharon Newman’s grief to feel ‘real’ on ‘The Young and the Restless’
Sharon’s world came crashing down on the April 21st episode of The Young and the Restless. She’d been on edge most of the night when Rey didn’t return to Crimson Lights after going home to fetch hockey tickets. Her intuition told her something was wrong, and her worst fears were later confirmed.
Sharon broke down in Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) arms after learning Rey died in a car crash. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as fans mourned Rey’s death alongside Sharon. Case’s recent performances have earned applause from viewers, yet they weren’t easy for the actor.
In an interview with Michael Fairman TV, Case opened up about the difficulty of filming Sharon’s reaction to Rey’s death. “I was worried after I shot it that maybe it wasn’t good enough or real enough. You tend to second guess it all the time when it comes to a situation like that because you’re talking about a reaction to a really crazy, shocking, specific moment in someone’s life, and I think people all react a little bit differently.”
Sharon Case had to say goodbye to co-star Jordi Vilasuso
Rey’s death was difficult for Case in many ways. Case had to say goodbye to her The Young and the Restless co-star. Vilasuso was fired from the show after three years. During that time, Case and Vilasuso had become friends. When news broke of Vilasuso’s firing, Case shared kind words about her co-Star. As it came time to film Sharon and Rey’s last scene together, it was tough for Case.
“Oh, it’s always difficult. It was difficult to shoot the last scene I had with Jordi. It’s always just very, very sad when somebody leaves the show, especially when it’s somebody who you’ve worked with for years, but that is also the way things go.”
What’s next for Sharon Newman?
With Rey gone, The Young and the Restless fans are curious about what’s next for Sharon. She’s getting ready to fly to Miami for Rey’s funeral, then planning a memorial at Crimson Lights. Rey will still be on her mind as she functions in her everyday life.
While grieving for her husband, she’s also trying to run her business, be a mom, and plan her daughter’s wedding. Sharon doesn’t have to go at this alone with her family and Nick rallying around her. Speaking of Nick, many fans feel this current storyline sets up a Shick reunion.
However, for Case, she doesn’t see a reunion coming soon. “I don’t see her rebounding right away. I mean, I wouldn’t think that in that kind of grief, anyone is thinking about romance. I do think she can be on her own.”
