Theresa Nist Casts Doubt on Gerry Turner’s Assertion That Cancer Diagnosis Led to the End of Their Marriage
The first-ever golden bachelor, Gerry Turner, shocked fans when he and Theresa Nist announced their divorce after just three months of marriage. Now, just a few months after the split was finalized, Turner has dropped another bombshell. The Indiana native reveals he was diagnosed with cancer just weeks before calling it quits on his marriage. He insists the diagnosis played a role in the split; Theresa Nist has other thoughts.
Theresa Nist weighs in on the effect Gerry Turner’s cancer diagnosis had on her marriage
On Dec. 12, Gerry Turner sat down with People to announce he was diagnosed with cancer just weeks before he announced his split from Theresa Nist. Turner told the publication he has Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, a rare, slow-growing form of cancer. Turner said the diagnosis changed his priorities and ultimately led to the demise of his marriage to Theresa Nist. His ex-wife doesn’t see it that way.
While Turner was adamant that his surprise cancer diagnosis factored heavily into the end of his short-lived marriage to Theresa Nist, she doesn’t agree. People caught up with Nist following Turner’s diagnosis news for her take on the situation. The New Jersey-based financial professional insists that the cancer diagnosis did not lead to the end of her union with Turner, at least on her end. From the sounds of it, Turner didn’t communicate to Nist that his diagnosis was the reason for the end of their marriage at the time.
Nist said that Turner explained the diagnosis as incurable but not terminal. In short, she said he explained to her that he would likely “outlive” the disease. She said while she was “devastated,” Turner did not behave as if the diagnosis was a death sentence, and neither did she. Nist insisted she was sure Turner would continue to thrive thanks to his positivity.
So what led to the couple parting ways?
Turner and Nist might have ended their marriage, but the former flames can’t seem to agree on what caused the split. Nist reiterated that the distance between her and Turner greatly influenced their decision to part ways. The couple initially insisted that was the cause of the split. For Nist, there is more to it, though. She is, once again, hinting that there is far more to the story than the public knows. Nist told People, “Part of it was the distance, but that wasn’t the only part. That’s really all I will say.”
Nist’s comments to the publication are the second time in just a handful of weeks that she’s alluded to a darker and perhaps more scandalous reason for the end of her three-month marriage. However, if there is a big secret, she’s not revealing it. While fans have spent months speculating about the end of the union, they are no closer to a solid conclusion. Still, it is becoming increasingly apparent that neither Nist nor Turner has many positive feelings about each other. They seem to subtly shade each other in their most recent interviews.
We can only hope that Chock Chapple and Joan Vassos’ relationship has a more satisfying and positive trajectory.
