This Celebrity Reportedly Went Behind Jay-Z’s Back and ‘Tried to Steal’ Beyoncé from Him
There’s seemingly not a thing that can break up Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Over the course of their decades-long relationship, the two have weathered all kinds of drama together — from infidelity to family feuds. But that doesn’t mean people haven’t tried to drive a wedge in between the famous couple.
Allegedly, Jay-Z’s former friend and business partner Damon Dash once tried to woo Beyoncé and take her from the 4:44 rapper. An associate of the two men made the revelation in an interview and detailed how it happened.
Jay-Z and Damon Dash’s relationship
Jay-Z and Dash were friends and business partners who founded the music label Roc-A-Fella Records in the ’90s along with Kareem “Biggs” Burke. Their partnership produced a hugely successful clothing line, movies, and many popular hip hop acts. But at the peak of their success, conflict began to arise between Jay-Z and Dash.
In the early 2000s, they had a falling out and split up. There are a plethora of theories behind the reason for their fallout. Some allege Dash grew jealous of Jay-Z as his star rose. Others say it had to do with conflicts of interest. But according to Roc-A-Fella producer Choke No Joke, it boils down to their issues over women.
Damon Dash allegedly took Aaliyah from Jay-Z first
Per reports, Jay-Z took an interest in Aaliyah in 1999. Judging from photos, the two hung out on at least two occasions and seemed to like each other. But any possibility of a relationship ended after she met and began dating Dash.
“I did not mean to fall in love with Aaliyah, she was just that cool,” Dash told Page Six in November 2019. “But you know, we were both going hard … everybody was trying to get to Aaliyah — it was not just Jay.”
While Dash insisted that he didn’t know Jay-Z liked Aaliyah, others say otherwise.
Still, Jay-Z took the loss in stride and moved on with Beyoncé in 2001. But then…
Damon Dash allegedly tried to get with Beyoncé during her relationship with Jay-Z
Choke No Joke told the radio show The Starr Report in January 2019 that Dash also allegedly tried to romance Beyoncé.
“I mean nothing happened like he kissed or sexed her or something like that,” Choke explained (via The Source). “Did he try to holler at her? Yeah. That’s the same thing he did with Aaliyah. Aaliyah fell for it. ‘Yonce wasn’t gonna violate Jay like that.”
Choke claimed that Jay allegedly wound up banning Dash from being around Beyoncé due to his wandering eyes. He went on:
“We all know there was a point at Roc-A-Fella where Dame wasn’t allowed around Beyoncé. Everybody that worked there at that time knew […] because he was a creep.”
Choke added: “[Dame] went behind his back and hollered at [Aaliyah] just like he did with Beyoncé. But like I said, Beyoncé wasn’t going for that sh*t. And the only reason why Aaliyah might have gone for it was because he wouldn’t be public with her and tried to keep that shit private.”
Aaliyah and Dash dated until her untimely death in 2001. As of writing, it appears that Dash is in a relationship with a woman named Raquel Horn.
