There were many reasons why the newest episode of This Is Us was so special. Along with showcasing the evolution of Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz), “The Hill” featured the season 6 directorial debut of Mandy Moore, who plays Pearson matriarch, Rebecca. The cast of the NBC family drama celebrated Moore’s accomplishment with a video shared with Instagram where her work was called “Pearson Perfection.”

Mandy Moore admitted directing ‘The Hill’ was ‘fantastic’

Moore appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the experience of stepping into the role of director for the first time as she filmed part two of the Big Three trilogy.

“The Hill” was dedicated to the life of Kate Pearson as Kate grew into the person she never believed she would be while at the same time finding a strength she didn’t know existed.

“Yeah, it was fantastic,” Moore shared. “It’s funny; we did this trilogy of episodes a few times over the course of six seasons. And so Milo, myself, and Justin directed this trilogy together. And so much of it takes place with our characters, Milo and I, in certain scenes, which was very strange to have to direct yourself while acting with seven-year-old children in bathing suits in Long Beach in the rain. It was like throwing every single obstacle [their way].”

“I mean, we have the most incredible crew, the most incredible cast. And I have even more affection and respect for everybody after being in the director’s chair,” Moore concluded.

‘This Is Us’ cast celebrated Moore’s directorial debut

In a post shared with Instagram, This Is Us‘ lead actors came together to honor their longtime friend and colleague as Moore made her directorial debut.

Series stars Jon Huertas (Miguel), Milo Ventimiglia (Jack), Chrissy Metz (Kate), Chris Sullivan (Toby), Sterling K. Brown (Randall), Justin Hartley (Kevin), and Susan Kelechi Watson (Beth) praised Moore’s dedication. The show called the episode “Pearson Perfection.”

“It was an honor to be directed by you,” said Huertas.

“She’s a powerhouse. She knows exactly what she wants and inspires and leads us. She’s a wonderful director,” expressed Ventimiglia.

“You have such beautiful energy. It was such a gift. I am grateful,” stated Metz.

“Mandy’s an incredible actor, an incredible director, and it has been an honor all around,” said Sullivan.

“You are extraordinary in everything you do: singing, acting, mothering, so it is no surprise that you were phenomenal as a director,” credited Brown.

“We are fortunate to have you,” said Hartley. “You are very brave and very talented.”

Finally, Watson shared, “You smashed it, and now you can add another hyphenate to your name.”
