This Is Us has scored many awards, including multiple Emmy Award nominations and several Primetime Emmy Award nominations. In early 2019, This Is Us was renewed for three additional seasons, and with the debut of the fifth season in October 2020, the show has proven to be an entertainment powerhouse.
Who plays Nick in ‘This Is Us’?
Actor Griffin Dunne has a role on This Is Us, playing the older version Nick Pearson, Jack Pearson’s brother. Nick first started appearing on the show in the third season, played by actor Michael Angarano, and by the fifth season, he was a popular recurring character.
Executive producer Isaac Aptaker recently opened up about why they chose two separate actors to play Nick, stating that “Michael is an incredible actor, and I thought he gave an amazing performance when he’s playing Nicky in his 40s. But at a certain point, he has such a babyface, it just breaks, and hair and makeup can only do so much. We didn’t want it to feel like kids playing old characters in a high school play.”
What will happen between Nick and Sally in ‘This Is Us’?
In season 5, episode 11 of This Is Us, fans discovered Nick Pearson’s heartwrenching past. Viewers see the story of a younger Nick’s love affair with a woman named Sally, played by Genevieve Angelson. While the two embark on a torrid romance, Nick ultimately decides to stay with his parents instead of traveling across the country with Sally. Flash-forward to present day, when Nick seems to be alone — albeit, on the cusp of reconnecting with his family in a big way.
Still, some viewers are hoping that they haven’t seen the last of Sally. Showrunner Laura Kenar stated that Sally could make an appearance on This Is Us again, saying: “I think it would be very exciting if it did happen.” Some fans are even speculating that Nick and Sally could have a secret child together, with one Twitter user posting “Wait! Did Sally & Nick have kids?!”
Another fan posted “just a quick note: in the flash forward episodes, it is revealed that Nick is married. I wonder if it is Sally. I wonder if they reconnected in the future! I would love that; never too late to rekindle love again.”
It is clear that fans are highly invested in the story of Nick and Sally, and that viewers would react very positively to more of their story being shown onscreen.
