‘This Is Us’: Was Edie the Only Character in the White Car? Some Fans Aren’t Sure About the Season 6 Flash-Forward Scene
The second episode of This Is Us Season 6 surprised fans when Edie (Vanessa Bell Calloway) emerged from the mysterious white car in the flash-forward scene. But even so, some viewers questioned whether the new character was the only one inside of the vehicle. Here’s why and what to expect from the future scenes in This Is Us Season 6.
Who is Edie to Nicky in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6?
In This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2, “One Giant Leap,” Nicky (Griffin Dunne). gets closure with his longtime love, Sally (Dey Young). Then on his airplane ride from California back to Pennsylvania, Nicky starts to flirt with his flight attendant, who is Edie.
Meanwhile, the new This Is Us Season 6 flash-forward scene jumps to the future, continuing with what happened at the end of season 5 episode 9, “The Ride.” Deja (La Trice Harper) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) wait for the person in the white car to emerge, and they greet Edie with open arms. Then Nicky walks out of Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) house, and he kisses Edie, confirming she is his wife in the future.
Why some ‘This Is Us’ fans think Edie wasn’t the only one in the white car
Following This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2, some fans wondered whether Edie was the only one inside of the white car. In a thread on Reddit, one viewer questioned whether Nicky’s wife was the driver because she seemed to walk in from the passenger’s side of the car in the flash-forward scene. Meanwhile, other viewers remembered that the show’s team teased more than one person inside of the white car following “The Ride.”
When speaking with Glamour in February 2021, co-executive producer Julia Brownell shared that “more than one person” arrived in the car. Jon Huertas, who plays Miguel and directed season 5 episode 9, also shared the same thing.
“I can tell you I know who is in the car and that there is probably more than one person in the car,” Huertas told TheWrap. “And people will be surprised with who exactly is in that car.”

It’s possible Edie wasn’t the only one to get out of the car in This Is Us Season 6. After all, the flash-forward scene in episode 2 just confirmed Edie’s relationship with Nicky, and there are plenty of future moments left to be seen. But viewers will have to wait and see what happens next.
Regardless, there are still other characters that have yet to arrive. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in January 2022, director Kay Oyegun confirmed there are “quite a few” more surprise visitors left in This Is Us Season 6.
“It’s a full house,” Oyegun said.
